View Full Version : Losing interest in cars ...

I appear to be losing interest in my cars :n: I have been a petrol head since 16 years old , done more miles than I care to remember , had more road races than than I should admit to. Used to read ever performance/ evo car magazine front to back.

I have cars just sat around getting no use , I have a motorbike sat in the garage for 2 years without turning a wheel , I have a car parked outside a mates flat that has been sat there for 7 months.

Why is this happening to me ?

Has anyone else been through this ?

Growing up a bit? Cars devalue too much and people end up throwing silly money at them. I lost interest when I bought my house as the price will always increase unlike a car

I should have grown up years ago ;)

But maybe you could be right , I used to spend every penny I had on modifying my cars for power. But not anymore .

I hope you are right mate, I just have never been like this before.

It pains me to see the last 3 issues of evo mag unopened , they used to be regular toilet time reading :drink:

I really need to be reinspired

I find my interest in cars is dulled by the price of petrol and state of the roads. I used to love just putting 20quid in the car and going for a drive to relax, but you cant so that nowadays as you spend most the time watchin for potholes!

I am going though it already. Done my bike license and now getting a bike. Not parting with the teg just yet though. But hardly drive it done sod all miles this year. Especially with access to a work vehicle when doing over time.

Did go out up heart side for a blast though at the weekend to stretch its legs.
Think price of fuel is the major thing on me. £70+ for a days outage.

It could be worse, you could be swapping your enjoyable daily drive for a 5 door diesel sensible family car.....I'm doomed

wait untill summer dude, once its warm with long days the motivation will come back :y:
winters always shit as its dark by the time your home from work and pissing down on the weekends so any meaningful tasks just get put off and the desire dies off.

for me anyway :homme:

Mk1 996 sold in feb 2013 variant.

Once again bought with great enthusiasm , never turned a wheel in anger. Sold for a small loss thank god ! In years gone by I would not flinch at mortgage levels of car payments. But things seem to be changing.

Now sits in my mates garage along side his 1977 911 turbo & mk1 cossie powered escort.

My heart is just not in this anymore........

I think the weather might have something to do with it, it's just so miserable ALL the time.

I don't know if I'm getting more miserable and noticing it more or if we just have more crap weather, either way it makes me not want to leave the house in the car or just doing anything!

This tbh. You can't work on the car - whether it be mechanical or mostly in my case, washing it at this time of year without freezing your arse off and catching hypothermia (or at the very least a cold or a bad mood) really. Any problems you notice can't be sorted unless you've hot a warm garage or workshop as it's simply no fun. That really pisses me off and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Roll on Summer and the motivation should come back mate :y:

i lost it along time ago with the saxo, bought a diesel, then bought evo, car ive always wanted, and well im bored. there is a few reasons tho, driving to our lasses is 25 miles on the a1, straight road, boring, the weather, i dont want to take it out in the shit weather, the state of the roads meaning potholes and greasy surfaces. Lost love that way, but been buying all stuff to detail car properly when im back, and then hopefully roads are dry so get more use out of it and going go to on a road trip with viper driving up to scotland and that, fingers crossed i get the love again

I think a lot of people are getting fed up with record number of potholes, record petrol prices and record parking charges. I also rarely see bikers these days.

I am just getting back into proper driving, advanced test etc soon. After driving the sodding van for best part of two years it's nice to have something fun.

Rwd and early bald back tyres makes for quick learning for me too.

I go through stages with my car, seems to relate to money and time. Fell out of love with it when it's not been driving right, making knocking noise etc and had no money or time to fix it. Back in love with it this week though as I've got money so knocking noise is getting sorted, I did a few small jobs because I had the time and getting it decat'd :D

Similar to me, all the roads i used to drive are gash.
Never really cleaned a car properly for years, but bought some cleaning gear recently, see if that gets my interest back a bit

True.. but I'm starting to feel that I've had enough for a while, want to take a break from it all. Keep chucking money at cars and all for what?

Been thinking about it lately. Not sure I can be arsed any more.

Sticking with an Ibiza as its been great having the '10 Cupra which I had from new. Getting another new one 1.6d 5 door FR Ibiza which should save me a fair whack over the year and it'll be more practical. It's just a daily drive so I'm no longer bothered by any performance element.

i lost interest about 2 years ago!

then had a baby and got a house, couldnt afford to plough money into modding like i used to anyway now a days even if i wanted to

im after a vw touareg next, may do a minor oem upgrades but not much

keep looking for a vts/106 gti to come up at the right price, to have as a back burner project when my business is quiet and restore to near factory... then put it away for a long time, some say pointless but one day i will bring it out and drive one again.... then sell it for a nice profit hopefully lol

No mate.

What they say about the British weather is all true.

After plowing a £1000 into mine recently and still been carless i have lost all love for all of it completely. Would much prefer a decent reliable diesel daily or something.
