I was rebuilding my axle a couple weeks ago and when i was taking it apart i snapped the ARB bolt in the O/S trailing arm. Due too much frustration doing the job i just left it bolted in one side. Havent felt any difference in ride/handling so my question is does the ARB even need to be there?

Yes don't leave it out, it moves under cornering etc.
