View Full Version : what would win ?

This has been bugging me no end.
If two identical cars at say 100bhp 1 with boost 1 without who would win.
Say a vtr none turbo vs a furio turbo'd both at 100 bhp same gear box same everything
Over a 1 mile drag strip.
Which would win or a dead draw ?

I'm going to say the acceleration on a turbo car would outdo the N/A one tbh

The turbo will have higher torque therefore a better chance of accelleratinng more quickly.
However, the tyres and suspension now come into play with the amound of grip on the off take.
Impossible to answer.

But you can control the throttle to get the power down.. If you were in the N/A and set off dropping the clutch at 5k you would spin the power away..
Both competant drivers, the boosted car would win, purely because or torque

Truth, plus you have to take in a whole load of shit like what the weather's like that day and which car benefits from that more and so many other things

This tbh. Too many variables - weather conditions, tyres, weight, torque, ability of the each of the drivers... the list goes on.

over a mile I'd say turbo

Exactly double the length from the middle to the end.

lol at taking both on a mile strip. VTR wins because longer gearbox ratios.

Longer ratios = slower acceleration. :wall:

If torque an HP were the same, and everythign else. no spinning etc
The N/A would win, because it doesn't have to wait for boost.
Again that would depend on the turbo.
OP is trolling.

also depends where in the rpm it makes boost and the power starts to come in

I made the executive decision that its a huge turbo, and it doesn't spool up until 4500rpm so the n/a wins :drink:

Turbo is going to have more torque and should make power lot earlier in theory
But without specs I'm holding Ryan's string

depends on th size of turbo. the bigger, the longer the lag, the more powerful the surge and more likely to beat th vtr but im sure th race would damage a lot of th furio in one mile!
with so many other tihngs to consider, im with ryan, anybody's guess!

Turbos are heavy, the NA will win.

N/A imo. the power is all around instead of at the top of the revs

At a 100hp I could have it spooling almost instantly there fore making most of your arguments crap tbh.
100hp through out a 2000-7000rpm range with probably 50% more torque.
Fact is the boosted application is going to win.
Same ratios, same tyres etc.

Power everywhere like a Honda?
Supercharged one will win tbh

like more lower down power than a turbo.
so more overall power throughout the gears instead of a top-end rush

It would be a race well woth a watch.
Would it be the same story on a short circuit?
Or would the extra weight make more under steer giving the edge to the N/A car ?
But then again to turbo will have more torque out the corner.
I was hoping for there to be a genuine answer as my knowledge of engines isn't overly great

im not track goer so dont take me seriously, but if there's a load of bends and tight corners, supercharger will kick in low n mid range, giving more power. you could get th same from a tiny turbo that spools quick but then no high rev power and boost.
IMO, supercharger is better for a bendy circuit, large turbo for longer straights. better yet, turbocharger?
