hi,
at the moment i don’t clean my car very often (about once a month or less:oops:) and when i do i only use soapy water and a sponge

basically i want to start cleaning it properly and to have it looking good for TRAX

can someone please suggest something to clean it with and something to protect/wax/polish it with.

i don’t have a clue about any of this stuff so any help would be much appreciated.

thanks :)

As bad as it sounds, and people will critisise me for this. But if you go to halfrauds with £30-£40 you can get some of the turtle wax stuff, and even some of the platinum. Get yourself a tin of back to black, and named polish either megs or autoglym or Turtle wax and a washing mitt or something along the lines of that. Not forgeting a shampoo!Have a good look at the products, read the back. Seen as your new to it you arent going to be able to tell the huge difference.

I was exactly the same as you got some polishes and you get hooked. Im going to order some stuff off polished bliss now i have a better understanding of what i want!

To start with thats what i would do.

Saxo, if you dont want to spend hundreds buddy buy a new product every week :), just put some money away from say you food fund or something.. They will soon build up buddy. If i dident want to spend much i would probally use the AutoGylm range... It's pretty cheap for the job it does.

try this list for starters:

bucket
sponge / wash mitt
paint brush for inside vents
chamois leather / waffle weave towel
100% cotton terry towels for low budget / MF towels

shampoo
wheel cleaner
glass cleaner
meg's 3-step paint kit
tyre shine
bumper black
metal polish

should get you started... probably £100 worth of stuff maybe less.

get your self to wilkinsons and get some microfibre cloths for polishing. £1 each if you go to halfords and places like that you will pay about £10 for them. they do just as good a job as the dear one's.

For silver, I can do one product for £15 that will beat everything on the high street gauranteed - a wet, glossy finish with loads of slickness and durability. The product in question is Jeffs Werkstatt Prime Acrylic. This is a one step cleaner-sealant: it will deep clean the paint whilst adding a really tough coat of glossy, acrylic protection. All you need to go with it is a German Applicator Pad and a Super Thick n Plush Towel to buff off (use a quick spray of water to help shift the residue if you find it hard to remove). Job done, car will look ace in time for TRAX. If you want a basic wash kit too, then Poorboy's Slick n Suds and a Meguiars Lambswool Mitt are worth getting too. :)
