Agreed with the above, 106 GTI is a lovely motor.
This debate is an age old one that gets brought up regularly however.

Get the GTI then depending on the condition of both of course.
Just noticed that you said between a VTR and GTI and not a VTS and GTI.

Gti is a Vts in another suit! Higher spec 16v unlike an R!
If they are the same price, but the Gti is a dog, buy the R. If the same buy the git

Gandi699
20th March 2013, 10:45
so why ask the question? GTi is a more desirable car
smiith
20th March 2013, 10:51
120bhp vs 90bhp, or 90bhp.. hardly worth asking
Ross
20th March 2013, 10:57
The gti is a better car all round, and will hold it's value better.
Not sure this is even a sensible question tbh lol

If you had said GTI or VTS then this may have been more of a debate as mainly it just comes down to preference. A GTI over a VTR however is a clear no brainer....

Maybe you mean VTS?
They are the same chassis, but the GTI is higher spec than a VTR, so GTI.
GTI> extras being ABS, leathers and a whopping 22bhp more!
BUT THEN, you have about a 25% increase in fuel costs and little more than that in insurance.
VTS/GTI wise, they are the same, the saxos tend to be a cheaper, the 106s often tend to sell faster.
Theres really nothing in it to be honest.

Was just about to say all that. When you get a 106 GTI you become a badge snob. Never would you get a chavvy paint name for it :homme: Also there are 4 different shades of Diablo red :y:
well i could afford the vts but not many about
There are definitely less GTI than VTS. By a long way.
60 in 2nd y0!
I can do 62mph in second gear :homme:
I say get the GTI because I have one  especially if it's immaculate. a VTR has a horrible gearbox too and is noticeably slower. Even better if it's a single plug GTI - they're a bit quicker. There's no way my 3 plug could catch Alans onyx asbo machine.

False. :)

Someone understands lol. the engine has about 1500miles on it, its brand spanking new. They handle brilliantly, even come with a LSD as standard.
But anyway, This thread isnt about my car ;)

I know it says vtr and the obvious choice is gti, but between gti and vts I'd still have the gti, nicer shape, meaner looking front, although I do rather the vts dash

Sure it wasn't just surface rust? Did you prod the wheel arches? If they are solid, so's the rest of the car :P
true at least then i will know it has been well looked after and cared for
HAHAHA
My GTI has been owned by "enthusiasts" since 2007, it's had a hard life.
Although, it does have proper new front wheel arches welded in :homme: and not just metal plates. and the roof has been treated and re-painted.

Not always true, even with established members on here you have to be careful.
I went to look at one and it turned out to be a shitter...like a proper shitter then they were an established member on here.

no i poked them and they felt like they were about to fall apart i said to them that i would need to spend alot on fixing the rust and they then dropped the price so still debating it because i can get a a nice 30% of pug parts due to work but it will be very time consuming
