Has anyone ever done flower picking as a job?
I've been offered to do it for 6 weeks in Scotland, and was just wondering how much anyone made, and what was it like? I fancy the chance to escape to Scotland for 6 weeks and do some work :y:

I've not come across this in the UK... Depends I guess if they take a cut of your pay packet to pay for accomodation, and food if they provide it. it won't be that much, but an experiance all the same.
Picking what plants?
I also immagine it'd be cold, and either sore on your back, or if it's a nice farm, they'll make you lay on a foam bed, whilst the tractor creeps along and you pick the plants as they come along

sounds a bit gay, maybe its 'street slang' for a homosexual brothel and your the big gay piñata and they'll beat you with there cocks until your soft gooey centre bursts across the jizz covered floor

I have to confirm everything, but I think it's 8 pound to travel there, 60 pound a week for accommodation, and £625 per box I fill, so it all depends how hard I work, it's got to be better than being on the doll though lol.

haha :y: Well, I still need to confirm everything, but roughly, if I fill a box every week, minus my expenses, I'd make 3k in the 6 weeks, or a box every 2 weeks, I'd roughly make 1.2k, beats being jobless :y:

Suppose it depends how big the box is.

If it takes you a week to fill a box of picked flowers, surely the flowers at the bottom of the box would have started to decompose? making more room for flowers, taking you longer....

If your on the doll I'd just take it, it's money none the less, and it's something else to have on your cv which can't be a bad thing

it sounds like such a meaningless way to spend your time and probably not make much money in a cold country

Was going to say this tbh. If it gets you out the house, gets you some money (albeit hard earned and potentially not alot) then I'd jump at the opportunity personally.
I've never been on the dole but have been out of work for a couple of months (thankfully found a new job now and hopefully starting soon) but I don't need to tell you that it's absolutely soul destroying to apply for a job and then never hear anything back from the employer despite leaving them a shit load of messages to ask about the situation.
Having something on your CV even to bridge the gap while you look elsewhere is the best thing you can do IMO - and if you do well, work hard etc. it's another reference you can give to future employers :y:

Did you ask how big the boxes are or how many you are likely to full a day/week?

On the face of it, it sounds quite good money and an experience if nothing else.
But that sounds quite alot of money for a box of flowers.
My guess is the boxes are the size of tonne bags and the flowers are likely to be tiny.
I know next to nothing about flowers, but roses are quite expensive.... But even to fill a sack with roses would be a bit of a mission. And for that sort of money there must be a catch surely.
I bet the flowers will be the tiny little purple ones that gypsies sell.

Did a quick google and it threw up a story about a daffodil grower in Scotland needing like 500 workers, was last year though.

If its dafdodils the boxes are actually going to be shipping containers. You can grab a morrisons bag full of daffs in literally a minute. In the dark

Any job is better then being jobless.

We use to pick daffy's when I was around 16. The box is about the size of a skip and there are 4 of you filling it. You are lucky if you fill one in the day.
We use to do it as kids as it was easy mentally, but its fucking hard wet work. and the end of the week you come out with just about minimum wage.
Surprised they offered you the job all places around here now use foreign workers.
