View Full Version : Anybody a qualified plumber?

Here are my problems:
1) I have hot water downstairs, but nothing upstairs...it runs cold. Doesn't matter how long i leave the tap running it will still run cold.
Same with the shower too.
2) I also have no pressure upstairs either, it used to be low pressure anyway but gradually it's getting worse.
Any idea's what's wrong as it's getting f***ing annoying now.
Cheers
I have a combi boiler

What's the pressure on the boiler ?
A little over 1.5 bar

A little over 1.5 bar
Did you tweak it to 1.5 bar or was it already there?
Is the water temperature changing e.g going warm then cold ?
What boiler do you have?

It was already there.
It used to change from hot to cold back to hot again (months ago until recently), now it's just cold.

Get a engineer in mate, them worchester boilers have mixed reviews some people say they are shocking, I have one havent had a problem as yet
I know this might sound stupid but happens to regular for my liking are you on a gas meter? If so is it in credit

My boss said it could be that so worth pointing out to your engineer

It's not a hard job tbh mate really wouldnt recommend trying to 'diy' it but you might get charged just over 100 I guess depends on the engineer but the part itself should be fairly cheap

Just had a quick look online to see how much the part is, no more than £15 to buy :)
Wouldn't like to risk doing a 'diy' job on it anyway.
Cheers for all your help lads :y:
EDIT: Just thought, would it still be the diaphragm if i'm getting the correct pressure and constant hot water downstairs?

Yeah could be.

The bar rating is for your central heating if its a problem with running water surely it either a block in the pipe or a water pump.

Mixer tap? Or seperate hot and cold?
Try something for me, run the tap downstsairs till its red hot then open upstairs hot.see if it warms up.
Chances are its just a shitty tap valve, that wont allow enough water through to trigger the flow switch in the boiler..
But if theres no hot in either the bath or sink it could well be boiler related. Try what ive suggested tho fella

Thinking about it, chances are the boiler itself is ok. But most likely a restriction in the hot water pipework. For above mentioned flow switch.

Just tried what you suggested to do, ran the hot tap downstairs, tried the tap upstairs and i have neither hot or cold water.
Safe to say i have a blockage along the pipe work somewhere :wall:

Yep. But on the plus side the boilers ok.
Had any recent plumbing done? Its highly likely its a bit of polypipe that had to tight a bend in and has gradually collapsed over time.kinking the pipe.
Can you even trace any of the pipework from the boiler?

No cold water upstairs?
The colds not dealt with by the boiler,

What i meant was, i have no running water upstairs when the downstairs tap is on hot :/
Can't trace any pipework back as it's all behind plasterboards etc. Not had any pipework done recently either.

Sounds like it could be a pump with the loss of pressure mate.

Just turned hot water tap off downstairs, boiler is reading 2bar now (was 1.5).
Ran hot tap on upstairs aswell as the shower and i have hot water again :/

Could be that your heat exchanger is blocked..

Don't worcester boilers have a 7 year warranty? also they replace up to three parts in the boiler for around 260ish i think.

If the boiler is new.. His boiler could be 6years old inwhich they didn't do warranties for that long then etc... and on new installs the boiler has to be serviced every year for the warranty to be valid.

Indeed.
Without seeing the set up to this particular problem it's hard to solve this problem.
Pretty much every job I attend is different in its own way, a lot of things can cause a single problem!

Your rubbish water flow upstairs won't be sufficient to activate the flow switch in the boiler. Which is why it's ok when you run two taps as it's pulling enough water to activate the flow switch.
Could just be blocked filters in the taps so check them. Otherwise remove a tap and run the pipe into a bucket, see is the flow better and see does the boiler fire then

Still the same at the moment, garden is getting dug up so my water mains will run off next doors instead of half a mile up the damn road lol.
