Is it easy to replace for a novice with car mechanics like me? Or am I better off going to a garage and getting ripped off for labour?

Any how-to threads on it as cant seem to find one when using the search bar?

probably needs "resetting". Unplug it and then plug it back in, or turn ign off and on Ive found that usually sorts it.
Also did you lightly oil the plunger inside?

Tried turning on and off, tried oiling it, tried tightening it up, still doing the same!?

Dear Bradtate,
Just a thought, did your friend who replaced your idle control valve for you, did he notice and swapped over the neoprene o-ring ? or did your new idle control valve already have a new o-ring fitted to it ?
