For anyone that doesn't know, the rm postal service prices all go up from next week, so if you need to post anything I'd go courier
Cost me £8/9 odd to post some cam covers in Monday gone and woman said it'll be near double that next week
Doing away with standard parcel etc etc, so everything will cost a bomb, so if selling anything you need to factor that in :y:

Fucking hell like, I like using the royal mail because it's just so easy and convenient but now I'm going to have to change, I've got a set of decks for sale too on ebay at the moment and I'm guessing they will cost a fortune to post.

I only use Royal Mail for letters and envolope type post. I never send parcels with them. Always use UPS.

I sent 2 turntables with Royal Mail before like a fool and cost me £15-£20 each.
Then I found out about interparcel years ago and that cost me £8 for a pair.

I wouldn't mind paying extra if I was getting the same service I got over 10 years ago, mail twice a day and you could set your watch by them.
Now ... They are lazy work shy c*nts.

Totally agree with this one post a day at around 3pm, don't bother to bring parcels just post the card through saying sorry you were out.

I will go as far as saying that they don't even bring the parcel these days just the note. They chap the door to see if your in and if your not ... You get the note and if you are they try again the next day.

I agree. Wouldn't mind the extra cost so much if the service was as good as it was even 3 - 4 years back.
In manchester the service is spot on, but if I'm ever back at my parents the postman's rarely round before midday, and sometimes they're not even there. It's as if there's not enough letters for our street that day so they just wait till there's more to make it worth while...
I remember when I was little it'd always be there before I went to school / parents went to work.
They were struggling, so had to make cutbacks on costs / staff, which means that they can't be as good these days, which in turn loses them more business... downward spiral

Was good Friday yesterday mate, I was shocked when blackie's cam covers turned up and he explained they were working all the bank holidays to catch up from the snow.

Was it not the fact they were going to be privatised and they had to show a profit as they were never a profit making company for as long as I remember. But they turned a corner when they took away such things the second post and customer service ?

The post men are given massive rounds, if you aren't at the start of the round, your post isn't early.. Simple as that..
The post men used to be given their bag of post, and on their way, now there are less post men, for the same rounds, so they are given trollys full of post, which contain a few rounds worth..

Totally agree.. Loads more packages, millions more "you weren't in when we called".. Luckily for me, my mum owns a shop so i have packages delivered there, but just think the amount of things that can't be delivered because someones not in.. Then they have that to take back to the sorting office, do the paper work for to be left to be picked up..

is that not the whole point of the company. Its a courier broker so to speak..You get to choose which service you pay for. The cheapest being the worst.
As for insurance. Basic insurance is rubbish. If you have a high value parcel either pay the extra for proper insurance or take a gamble...

I would say its the unions and the inability to modernise the system to current demands. Other companies can send packages to home addresses and still make a profit...

But they are sending purely packages, think of the throughflow of letters and stuff as well.. They are delivering to pretty much every address, where the likes of DHL, aren't..

Yeah as far as I'm aware that's the case mate! think when it got considered to be sold off they had to have a massive shake up of things.
As far as I know, they'd been using the same business structure / strategy for ages, and hadn't kept up with the change in demand (more people sending emails instead of mail) and so it was costing a lot more to run than they're making...
But they are sending purely packages, think of the throughflow of letters and stuff as well.. They are delivering to pretty much every address, where the likes of DHL, aren't..
That's a good thing though, not a hinderance. DHL etc would love to have to deliver to nearly every address. Market share = good.
The problem seems to be that the Royal Mail is run pretty badly at the strategy doesn't seem to be profitable / progressive enough to make profit.

add to that the amount of junk mail, I know I get loads of it. Out of the door and straight to the bin.

But that amount of post along with the extra parcels, less staff, is the reason post isn't there at 8AM anymore.. Thats the point i was trying to get across :)

Kev this is why when I sell stuff I always go for someone I know that is reliable even if it means the cost is more, I rather pay more for a service I know is going to be decent rather than the cheapest one possible to say a few quid.
As for Royal Mail I only ever send letters and small packets through them everything else is by a decent courier

Oh yeah. I completely agree dude.
As I say, it's a vicious circle; need to save money, so cut staff. which creates a worse service, leading to less customers. Which then needs more cuts to remain profitable...
