Hi all, my name is RYAN and this is my first thread on the saxo website.
I have owned a SAXO 1.4 FURIO mk2 51 reg for the last year and have been modifying it ever since i will post some photos soon but would like some help and advice with my next project and that is to upgrade the engine from the standard 1.4 8v to a 1.6 VTS 16v . I have a VTS engine and loom , plus unlocked ECU. I do need a good gearbox . If anyone can help with the do's and dont's and any advice would be very greatfull . The Saxo has been lowered 50 mm with an uprated back axle. New disc brakes all round upgrade, full professional body strip and paint job, some modifications ,new interior, full stainless 4 to 1 piper exhaust system , 15 alloys and the list goes on. My Saxo is really starting to take shape. Any help would be great fully appreciated , i forgot to mention that i also need a cambelt casing cover for my VTS engine as the one i have has a crack in it many thanks RYAN.

Use the correct forums and you might get more sensible replies. In fact why not have a read of this forum > Saxo engines and performance forum (http://www.saxperience.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12) where there is masses of information on converting engines etc....

There are some incredible saxo's on here and some people that work professionally with them. There are your answers on this site, become familiar with it and get to know its users and its a brilliant tool.
Its an online community however, and like the new kid in a class of 15 year olds the banter between other members may seem like a turn away but just bare with it.
Use photobucket to upload pictures.
All saxo boxes are interchangeable.
VTR boxes are longer ratio as they dont rev as high
VTS boxes are shorter ratio as they do rev high.
Furio and diesel box are the same as VTR box but have slightly longer 1st and 2nd but its un noticeable.
1.1 box is shortest ratio, but shafts dont fit in quiet all the way and the diff is weaker in them.
Mlawian had a furio or VTR and he paid someone to do a VTS conversion and its like unsolvable puzzle, something is wrong its fueling and he cant figure it out, hes sunk a load of money into a car that ran fine, for what seem like no reason. Thats why he advised not doing it, hes out of pocket and a car.
These days a furio is worth the same if not more than a VTS as people can insure them, its easier to start with the higher spec VTS as a base.

Thanks for that at last there are some
Sensible people out there. Can you tell me
Are the engine mounts any different. I know that
The loom is different so I have a loom that was already from
The damaged vts and the ecu has been professionally
Unlocked. Are the driveshafts the same. And I need to
Find out about the fuel line return mod. I concerned that
Someone has had a issue with over fuelling. Surely
Other guys have done this conversion without a problem and can give some
Advice as to what to look out for. I will fit a new cambelt and clutch
, new recon VTS gearbox. Upgrade engine mounts
, new exhaust manifold are there any other modifications
I need to make when get the 1.4 furio engine out thanks .

All engines are interchangeable. As already said there is a room called 'engines and performance' and in there your answers will already be written.
I wouldnt bother with a recon box, you can pick up decent boxs for £40/50 quid and with less than 150bhp or so you wont break one.
the 16v has a differant engine mount to the 8vs but I would leave standard mounts on if its a road car, even with an unprated lower gearbox mount the vibrate lots.
Lots have been done successfully, but people have had problems. The VTS runs a fuel return unlike the 8v models, but lots just blank it, others dont, you will have to ask someone who is currently running a conversion to see what they have got.

engine mounts are the same irrc apart from the 1.1/1.0 models, i've put a saxo vts lump in my 106 quicksilver which is exactly the same as your furio, i kept the standard 1.4 box on it and the engine went straight in, no troubles/hassle what so ever
as for the fuel return, well, originally i didnt put a return on mine, but when it came to starting it it was filling up on cylinders 2 and 4 and hydrolict ( spelling ? ) so i ran a fuel return hoping that would sort the issue out as i originally thought there may of bin too much pressure, but that wasnt the case, mine was down to a fucked ecu
but, its up to you whether you do this or got for a vts/gti, alot of people on here have done 16v conversions, just unfortunatly some dont go too well in this case matts didnt and neither did mine, spent atleast 6 weeks fucking about with it until all my problems were down to dodgy ecus , if it hadnt bin down to that i would of had a running 16v conversion in 4 hours!
but i do regret doing it as it did end up being a huge money pit just trying to get it to run but like i said alot of people get away with them hassle free, i hope you do too!

How do you know if the ECU is bad , I have one that is professionally unlocked cost £99 to be done . This was in the VTS doner from which I also have the engine and loom. Where does the fuel return line run to.

I feel bad that you paid £99 for someone to snip the immobiliser pin, but that should be fine.
The engine mounts are the same by the way, i was referring to the aluminum part that the mount uses to connect to the block. Make sure you get the full mount.
And as Ali said, its good if it works, but many do seem to cock up a bit as usually they are build from scrap yard bits.

you dont mate until you try!
like i said, i spent 6 weeks trying to sort it out, in the end i had 3 ecus

exactly that, i bought all my parts seperatly off here, pretty much bought a bare engine, then everything else from here and there!
but like i said mate, if it hadnt been down to my ecu problems i would of had a fully running conversion within 4 hours :(
so, keep a couple hundred spare incase you run into problems :P
