James

Whole test mate
rep please
James
24th August 2006, 17:25
By law they have to spend a stupid amount of time like 40 minutes blah blah, they clock on the car and clock of the car.
JayWard
24th August 2006, 17:26
nah it depends really tbh depends how long its been and what needed doing! they can either fast track it which is basically check the parts it failed on and it take about 20mins - half hour max! or they do a full hour retest!
James
24th August 2006, 17:26
Jay it dosent depend, by law they have to do it all again...
edit: although they will only probally check the parts it originally failed on... they are supposed to re-sit the full thing
JayWard
24th August 2006, 17:26
yeah by law they do have to stay on a certain amount of time with the new system in place but if they fast track it then its a quick retest like i say about half hour! or full hour test depends
JayWard
24th August 2006, 17:27
by law actually they dont have to do a full hour retest!
Clouds_mate
24th August 2006, 17:28
landys says just the parts. Heres what mine has failed on
Spare Wheel loose
No water in the washer jets
No near middle seat belt stalk
Front drivers side lamp
front pads
All of them are fixed. pads getting done at 5 but guna have to swap headlamps for the retest.

i think if its within a certain time (e.g. 24hrs) of when it failed then they only need to check the parts and not a full test.
James
24th August 2006, 17:28
Place who did mine said they had to.. it failed it's MOT, he checked the bits what it failed on and passed them. He made me wait for the hour so he could clock it of in the database.
JayWard
24th August 2006, 17:29
we always get the ppl from vosa down our work etc and the ministry checkin our MOT paperwork etc and you dont actually have to do a full hour retest! sometimes you have to on certain items and depends when you did the first initial test!
JayWard
24th August 2006, 17:30
if they finish the test early say on an MOT they do have to make you wait till they can clock off your right but not in all occasions you have to log on for the hour on retests thats all..but sometimes you do mate
James
24th August 2006, 17:31
Re-test was about 24 hours after it failed... it failed on breaks. Does that mean they had to do the full thing again? lol
Clouds_mate
24th August 2006, 17:31
did you fail on your headlamp too?
JayWard
24th August 2006, 17:32
lol yeah on brakes you normally have to log on for the hour..today i was speaking to the tester at our place! he failed one on brakes yesterday and it had the work done today but had to wait the hour again!
James
24th August 2006, 17:33
did you fail on your headlamp too?
Yea but that was at the very first place... It took me 3 MOT's to get it right

First place who vandalised my car somehow snapped all the hinges on my headlamp, so on the sheet they also put a fail on that.

24th August 2006, 19:45

This is all getting confusing,
The new mot rules is as follows.
If a car fails an MOT for your free retest it must be by the end of the next working day( 24hours)
If you leave the car at the garage to be repiared then u have nothing to worry about as it has not left the premisis.
On the retest they check what it failed on. Not a full mot.
If u have missed the 24 hour period u need to do a full mot again.
Hope this clears things up.

squeeky belt noice when engine is goin but goes away when clutch is pressed :x
another squeeky belt noice (constant)
car shakes and wheels rattle when i drive over a fag packet
exhaust is blowing pretty bad
car nudges forward when i take ma foot off accelarator
thats about it i think :x
Luke
24th August 2006, 20:49
Are you driving it daily mate?
Rosco906
24th August 2006, 20:49
can only asume the shake an rattle's and exhaust will fail it.
Constant rubbing could be timing belt? other probably fan belt.
If your needing bits give's a shout. got an account with dingbro.
Might do some fitting stuff for ya before you take it in.
Mitchell
24th August 2006, 20:53

clutch is a defo no no for failing. will check for u 2moro tho.
best thing to do is check all the lights, make sure theres water in the fluid, all seatbelts work, If u go under the car and grab the anti roll bar link. If it feels loose u'l need one. u cant check them when jacked up.
Exhaust you'l need to say where its blowing.
Also where is it you work? Kfc hehe
When's the mot due? Just theres a few things i can do to make sure it dosnt fail and advise the rest to you.
Mitchell
24th August 2006, 21:02
work in cupar, i drive it down dangerfield road every mornin and back haha probs why its fucked (if u know the road im on about)
i got an anti roll bar thing fitted last week by fife auto :x but still rattles like crazy. dunno about the exhaust, hopes its just the backbox cos ive got a replacement. mot is due start of november.

Rosco906
24th August 2006, 21:17
If youve been going to that garage for a good while and good customer to them i would asume theve put it thro as not left premisis.
But if ur leaving it till the 14 days and put on extra miles u better hope who ever doing the mot puts in a few extra miles from the mot.
They will catch on if your car did an extra 100 miles from time of mot and repairing it within 14days

Everytime my previous cars have failed the mot place have just checked the parts have been replaced.
I need to sort the pug out today for its test tomorrow.
I think it'll fail on:
Blowing exhaust (hopefully sorting this today)
Abs light on (hopefully doing this too today)
hopefully they'll let me off for the front tints
Im taking it to my brothers mate off cliosport as he owns a garage so should be ok.

Phoned garage this morning to tell him cars now ready and he sadid to bring it up to him...
Went up tested my parts and said all good in the hood.
Altho. on the rear brake test when he used it looked like my exhuast smashed on the floor when he breaked but it didnt so cant of been that far off lol.
He said my other light beem was out a tiny bit he changed the blub and didnt work but he said its ok and didnt charge me for the blub either lol
I was at the garage for 10mins and most of that was talking to him.
How did you go on dan?
Dan
26th August 2006, 22:23
I didnt make it there today, I found out that the rear abs sensor has snapped so had to go and get a new one today. Was at work until 1pm so didnt have time to take it today as the missus had to go to hospital this afternoon.
Need to take it one day next week, everything else should be ok.
