hay has anyones igniton gone on them before and have had to change the ignition barrel?? i've ordered new barrel but citroen recon i need the key recoded to be able start the car, even though i dont have central locking is this true does it have to be recoded to be able to start the car (i thought you would have to have an imoboliser or central locking to have to recode)

anyone no how much this is going to cost!!

you might need to re-code for the immobiliser which i thought was standard on all saxo's and modern cars so citroen may have a point.

do you have a keypad? I thought all saxo's came with some sort of immobiliser as standard

i seriousley doubt it since there is nothing in the key itself that is required for the ECU to read before it can start the engine up.

have a look on your car key for a small square shape bit on the plastic fob. if it hasnt got one then you shouldnt need to re-code anything as that liitle plastic thing is where the chip for the in-key immobiliser is kept.

nah scott havent got a key pad that is why im asking! yeh it is a chip in my key, but i think it got fcuked up when my ignition went plus tryed getting it out and chipped bit on the corner so shitting myself now that it want work if i try it in the other key! but since i havent got a key pad does it even need the chip

if you had a key pad then you wouldnt have a chip. Keypad code would be used to unlock the immobiliser. CHip in the key is sensed by the pick up ring around the ignition barrel which is used to unlock the immobiliser.

Try to start the car with new key with the old key in hte house or at least far away. If it starts then obviously your ok, if not then bring the old key out and place it on the new key or as close to ignition barrel, see if it starts. If it does then you can either remove the chip or hae it on the same keyring or somehting

yeh well as i said i chipped the side of the chip getting it out so im shiting myself now that it want work the new locks will be arriving tomorrow im hoping it might have been a thing where all new keys sent out by citroen would have the chip in there so if it was needed then it was there if it wasnt then its just not used lol

conner what did you have done your key reprogrammed and what would the step by step guide involve m8!! thanks

well i had to get a new ignition as the key went all fucked in it and the garage fitted the new ignition then the car went to citroen to get programmed or somethng i aint to sure

fitting it is easy mate but im 99.9% sure that its needs programmed or something

mine is a 99mk1 saxo with no immobiliser or keypad or that

yeh i can fit the new barrel for ignition no problem! that tha easy part i just read in the haynes manual that saxos up to 1998 had an imboliser keypad but saxos after 1998 has what is called a transponder immobiliser its the chip in the key.

"the head of the ignition key contains a transponder chip, and the ignition lock contains a reader coil. when the key enters the lock, the read coil recognises the signal form the micro chip and deactivates the immobiliser."

m8 how much did it cost you to get it recoded by citroen ?? also would over garages be able to do this or only citroen? (as it could work out bit cheaper)
