View Full Version : Football violence

Huge fight just kicked off in Waterloo Station between Pompey and Millwall apparently, and all pubs around Waterloo have been closed.
I know it is nothing like the 'good old days' but just wondering has anyone got any stories from football matches?
I've seen a couple when about 10 Arsenal fans walked in to a Portsmouth pub after beating Pompey 3-0, chanting about it and it was mad. I was only 13/14 at the time so was quite scary!
Also seen a bit of violence between Pompey v Southampton last year, as an away fan it isn't great with that many people actually wanting to kill you.
Random thread I know but the 6.57 and other football violence history amazes me.

just mindless violence
how can people be that narrowminded to want to fight someone else, just because they're from a certain part of the country and support that team
Davyy

It is all part of the matchday fun though I spose. As long as it is only people who are up for it getting involved, and no innocent people etc.. I think it is okay.
The main issue was the disruption it caused to public transport, and the cost of police etc.

People who get violent over a game of football just need to be shot.

When rangers were playing chelsea a few years ago, a small group of chelsea thugs came into a bar in my town to wreck the place and batter folk (its only a small place where i live, but not far from glasgow). Unfortunately they picked the bar full of all the local headbangers and downright fucked up people. The football wanks all got a hiding and a couple had lengthy hospital stays.

These groups often share the IQ of a lettuce in between them. Add a little too much lager to that and the IQ figure goes out of the window. They should be fitted with tags when caught and curfewed home whenever there's a match somewhere.
A lot of these idiots get barred overseas, I've seen the damage they can do as in walk in a bar and tear the place down. A bunch of these idiots turned up one day in one of the local boozers and immediately sent a chair flying into an 8 x 20 ft mirror, what they didn't know: the old bill quarters are 50 yards round the corner. 6 months jail each and then sent back to the UK. As a result there, bartenders won't serve English folk even if they look just a little tipsy.

Football violence is stupid. I'm passionate about music, just because someone else like a different type doesn't mean I can kick the crap out of them.
What other sport do you see fan violence like this? None. Just stupid.

Your comments surrounding this topic are laughable. A serial killer is probably very passionate about the murders they're committing, does that make it fine as well yes?

I'd agree with this. Rugby, for example is a much more inherently violent sport. Yet the fans manage not to want to stab each other to death every weekend.

Some people go to matches for the love of the game, others go for the trouble/fights afterwards. There was a documentary on the t.v about this sort of thing, it showed how the 'real' football fans were the ones who actually turned up and enjoyed the game and went home.
The others were just yobs who wanted a reason to kick off, the thrill isnt in the game for them, its the aftermath, whereas with real fans the thrill is in the game :drink:

How stupid are you? So if your team looses, you see that as a reason to kick off? But you kick off at the people who support the team that beat you?
If someone kicked me, I'd possibly get violent. If someone kicked my car there's a chance I could get violent. I can't see what relevance this has to someone who supports an opposing football team though?

You aren't just violent to any fan from the other team.. just the oppositions firm who are also 'up for it'.
And it is relevant because unless you've met people similar to this (I've met Cass Pennant so I understand) who are very passionate, you wouldn't understand. So I compared it to your car etc.

That is a fair enough point.. but is most likely because of the size of the audience, alcohol being mixed in, lower/middle class etc, in comparison to Tennis and Rugby fans being seen as more upper class.
But then my point of as long as it is firm v firm and no innocent people are involved still stands imo.

It here's hardly any trouble at football matches.
Morons will always be morons. The firm is just a form of unity and acceptance for gang warfare.
It's pack mentality, and historically most of the firms rarely attended games just used the 'fixtures' as a mirror for who they fought.

Basketball in the states has a similar trend with firms fighting each other.

They don't kick off because the team loses. And it stays between willing parties 90% of the time. Also as far as I've always been told It's a sort of code not to involve scarfs.
I don't see a problem with it if it's out the way but when it starts going off at a train station for example then its wrong. People will always fight, if you completely remove football firms the people who were in them will fight elsewhere. Mainly town on Friday and Saturday nights from what I've seen.
Again it's worth noting that a lot of the people who fight in firms are friendly with each other outside of them.
International violence is stupid on our part as the firms in this country look like a primary school gang compared to some others I never understand why they bother with it.

Easy answer for you.
They insight and perform narrow-minded violence, they terrify the local residents to whichever stadium they happen to be arriving to, they clog up fast-food joints afterwards pissed out their heads and often causing criminal damage while singing, shouting and being abusive, they see anybody with a football shirt on that isn't theirs and set on them, they cost the police time, resources and man-power with the necessary extra secutiry, people get hurt, feuds begin which can lead to all other sorts of problems.... I could continue but I won't.
So the undeniable conclusion to this thread is that yes, those that insight and partake in football violence, whether physical or verbal, are scientifically-proven fucking idiots and may as well be shot to give the residents some peace, quiet and safety.

What the fuck about that is 'the good old days'
Bunch of pissed up idiots thinking they live the lives of characters on football factory/green street...
Mindless idiots, the majority having no idea of how to even fight and in a one on one situation with a white belt 6 year old female karate student would probably get bitched up.
Looking for fights in the public, by pissed up hooligans is intimidating to families trying to enjoy a day out and a massive drain on our economy due to damage, waste of police time and resources and required medical care in some circumstances..
Lobbing bottles, hitting people with knuckledusters and fighting in large faggot groups is ghay and what 15 year old chavs do.
People that get their kicks out of this need to get a life and grow up, if you want to fight, learn a fighting style. Join a fighting academy, get a license and train and spar until you reach a level that your master /trainer is satisfied you can represent your academy...
It's something your friends and family can be proud of instead of fighting like an inbred.

i cant get my head around how people can get so worked up about football.
I was at Newcastle central station yesterday at about 3pm. I missed all the action, there was just a few miserable looking Newcastle supporters stood about, but there was police absolutely everywhere and they were telling regular travellers to get off the smaller local trains and go on the bigger cross-country, east coast services all for the sake of these pathetic football fans.
