I can't understand these kind of comments, how do you know how they finance their car and why do you care if it's a good car?
I'd like to have a look at a Bugatti regardless of how the owner bought it.
Or is your problem more that they all just do the same things? in which case fair enough

Because most of the cars in the shows are just put into a garage and tell tell them what they want done and just pay. Most of them havnt done any of the work themselves and have too much money.
Loads of the people on edition are just brown nosers aswell imo lol
Fair play to everyone has done the work themselves tho

Oh I misunderstood a little bit, lack of sleep but still don't see a big problem there
I mean just because you aren't handy with tools you can't enjoy owning a modified car?
Can definitely respect guys who do everything themselves but a good car's a good car regardless of who did the work surely?
Have heard that about edition before though

Yea i just dont think its the same if you do nothing. Alot of the cars dont ever get driven and are taken to the show on a trailer. Now to me thats just shit whats the point?

my view is fair play to all the modified cars weather done themselves or not
i stopped with that sort of scene because i wanted to use the car i was putting alot of money time and effort into now i have gone with trying to do track days. since going to a few track days and watching i found these events better because they have 1k to 100k cars being used to the max not just being parked up and looked at but this is purely my opinion but will still be attending a few meets i.e bolton abbey and fcs this year to look for ideas, meet people and trade stands ect

The show itself I was really impressed with. It was a lot bigger than I expected and the standard of the cars was immense. The red Mk1 Golf on Cali plates was incredible and I even loved a couple of Mk3 Golfs (I usually hate them)
Only downside was one car I was disappointed with. A mk2 Jetta rolled in really high on steel wheels and was then suddenly decked on some stunning BBS RS's. I just wish it had driven in like that instead of being a trailer queen...

I get what you're saying regards the owners not doing the work themselves... However, it's a show - to look at nice cars. If you're enjoying looking at the cars who gives a fuck who did the work.

A lot of people don't have the tools or space to do the work themselves. I'd love to do all my own work but my street is just not suitable.

And the amount of work it needs you don't have enough time in the day to spend on it ;)

I don't have the skills or tools required to do the majority of the work on my golf, so yes, I've handed it to a bodyshop with a VERY STRICT plan of action.
When it's back though, every little detail that most people won't notice was my idea, my planning and my hard earned money that went into making it.
Does that mean I don't deserve it?
What percentage of the cars on Saxp have been built and painted by the owners? Very few I would imagine.

was it a flop? it usually is.
ten pound to get into a car park
springfest on the same day
low on BBS
etc

It was great to be honest. £10 for four car parks full. Can't complain.

I think cars look much better done by professionals, if you have given them a brief and money as far as I'm concerned you are partly responsible for the look of the car.
If anything it's done to a better standard that wont look shoddy, like half of the cars people work on themselves.
I would never have enough time to work on my car myself, it would take me forever to modify my car to a show standard if I was into that scene...

I dont have a problem with people paying someone to modify their cars, people can do what they want. But i totally get what L33A is saying.
There are a number of people who are genuinely awesome people and the rest are just families out for a day out. But then, there are just a few people who are spoiling the scene for themselves. Those VW or die guys who think everything other than a shagged out golf with its geometry fucked and wrong size tires is satan (not intended as a pun to golfjay, but you know the sort i mean) And there are guys who just stand beside their trailer ponies talking about them as though they are the be all and end all, but they have never even driven it up the road, just paid someone money to build it and taken the credit.

^^^ this is what i mean.
Totally fair enough to use bodyshops for paint/body work etc but mean loads of people do literally fuck all themselves. Ive known people on edition pay to have thier wheels changed over! And this was a lad with a car in the show

Its not exclusive to the VW scene though, its in every scene.
My dad was really into his classic bikes and i can remember just before he got ill we put the engine out of his triumph engined drag chop and put it in a restored bonneville frame and got some kicks out of having a totally standard looking bike that was concourse but went well.
We took it to a bike show and entered it in concourse and some wanker came over to us, an old boy with a body warmer and a fishing hat and told us we had used the wrong spring washers and then went on to tell us how we had destroyed the bike by converting it to metric and went on about all these faults with it. Its worth noting the thing was exceptional, was dad was a really impressive engineer and detailer.
He then told us that his bike was simply the best and wins every year, and how it had been built by TRS of somewhere.
Then when i noticed him pushing it through the show paddock i asked why he didnt fire it up and he wouldnt answer and it was only when his wife told me that it had no pistons or rods in i knew why.
Stupid really, but there he was chatting shit like the best of them, knowing every part number and colour code there was to know about triumphs, yet he paid someone to build his bike to look as it would have looked out of the factory, it was totally static and didnt even run. He just put it on a trailer and polished it. And then had the cheek to comment on our, also concourse bike, built by us, that looked identical to his, yet was running 13s up York most months and being ridden 3/4000 miles a year as though it was inferior.

I do bits and bobs myself, bodywork wise its no biggie.
I let rob @ Constella do all the mechanical etc.. Not because i couldn't do it but because his skills are far superior, i have no time and he could probably strip/rebuild and run in an engine before i got chance to take the cam covers off!
That said, if i got "best of show" awards etc i'd give credit to everyone involved and i wouldn't put anyone elses work down who had actually done it themselves.

Agree with what's said, i have that view but towards people who do nothing at all. I see somethings on evo forums where they have paid to get calipers painted, or to change wheels, or even to clean it! I pay people to do some things on my car. But when I can do it I will.
I don't understand how you can be into the modding scene with out doing anything!

Some people might not want to, or can't, but are still really interested in the scene.
I plan to get a nice new car this summer, all being well - and it'll cost a fair few shiny pennies. So although i'm fairly competent at doing things and probably could do most things myself (without going mad). I'm not letting anybody but professionals lay a finger on it.

I agree, I cant get my head around professing to be into something but never getting their hands dirty. I have a mate like that, could tell you every single manufacturer compatible option that could be fitted to a Fiesta ST in regards to braking/suspension but hadn't really touched the car himself bar the odd engine dress piece. Internet forums are a great help when doing things for advice etc but for me at least it makes me what to get stuck in and investigate. Obviously its a different thing when people have no time themselves due to work commitments or require specialist jobs such as mapping, professional standard paintwork etc
