I used the iron gate paint 2 years ago for a large driveway gate I made. It was rusty in just over 12 months
Hammerite may not be the cheapest but its certainly up to the task if applied correctly. Search ebay for cheap suppliers. Theres folk on there selling 400ml tins for £7.95 inc delivery

Hammerite is awful! I'm a decorator and won't even use it at work.
Bodywork get properly sprayed, struts etc that can be removed stripped down and send to powdercoaters.

I've done my struts last year with hammerite and its fine. Not like you see them anyway.
I'd never use it on my cars paint though. Sure it was mentioned on a thread not so long ago..
^ why have you painted it Black? doesnt look too great, bet the finish is ropey with being used by a brush

had to do some of welding on the inner arch which left it looking a mess and its only a weekend toy and planning on some track days this year didnt want to spend loads making it look pretty so it went black with a brush but was quite happy how it came out really considering i have since sanded and made it look better but not too fussed tbh out side looks pretty though :)

companies probably couldnt afford to use it in an industrial application such as painting someones gates or steel fencing...it would be far too expensive even at trade prices....... and theres also better products such as powder coating. If its on the underside of the car and not seen, it'll give good protection as its one of the more durable paints

Although, if your wanting cheaper than Hammerite, you probably won't like the price:panic:

What colour you wanting mate?
I can do you 2 spray tins of wheel silver 500ml for £12 posted. Proper bodyline stuff too not the shit you get from halfords.
Also any enamel paint will do you fine for the struts just use a decent etch primer before.

I was thinking blue mate, I've just thought I have black at home, need to see the blue in person and decide.
Westwell, so your suggesting the opposite of what I asked? Well done.

Tbh nothing will last as long as 2k paint or powder coat for the corrosion resistance. For both struts your looking at about £50 for powder coating and its a do and forget process. where as paint your looking at re painting after stone chips and the likes every couple of years.

Yeah but its something I can do myself mate, whole point of modding car, don't want to just pay someone to do everything. Can't call it my own twist if I've paid someone!

Was aimed more at the fact you wanted something tough (and long lasting? - to save having to redo them).

Hammerite I tough and long lasting, I wanted to see if there was an alternative that I could maybe save a tenner on getting a few tins.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the dinitrol rust proofing kits. Widely used with the rotten mx5s and very highly rated.
