Weird noise!!! Whining noise increases in volume with speed. Not engine related or revs as if I knock it into neutral noise remains. Quietens progressively as I slow down. Doesnt pull left or right when driving or braking. Noise reduces when I swing round a fast right hand sweeping bend, doesn't change going round a left hand bend. I would appreciate any ideas as I have very little money and need to know if this is something I can fix myself? Help!!!!!

You haven't got a queezy other half that is always your passenger by any chance?
Just kidding sounds very much like a wheel bearing. You can check by jacking up the front and seeing if there is play in the wheel by giving it a bit of a shake.

also when its jacked up, there doesnt need to be play in the bearing for it to be on its way out and noisey......but if you slowly spin the wheel it'll be "grumbley or rough sounding" compared to a good bearing.
I did a rear a few weeks back due to such circumstances

Thanks for the replies folks, how much should it cost for a garage to fix it?

About a tenner for the bearing, and about a tenner if you remove the hub yourself and ask it to be pressed in.
Or about £30 at a garage
