Clutch/Gearbox

Really need help asap, im having problems changing gear when engine is on but when its off it seems fine. when im at a junction i really have to slam it in gear even then it doesnt alwayes work. AM guessing its a very expensive job so would be great if some1 could please help. I live in Hartlepool

Dear mhdurrani,
This sounds like it could be your clutch friction plate that is wearing out.
One check that you can do, is to start the engine and have it idling on tickover and put your handbrake on tightly, put your foot on the clutch pedal and put it into 1st gear, then bring your clutch up slowly, and you will need to make a mental note of where your clutch bitting point is.
A new car will have a clutch biting point, on your pedal will be very close to the cars floor. A worn out clutch pedal will have a bitting point that you will have to release your clutch pedal almost right at the top of your clutch pedal permitted travel.

Ive just tried that Vince but no joy it wouldnt let me put it in 1st at all. so i switched engine off put it in 1st and that was fine but bite point is low id say hope that makes sense.

Dear Hassan,
That is strange, you should be able start the engine and have it idling and also you should be able to push the clutch pedal down and select any gear you want, including reverse aswell.:y:
It sounds to me like your clutch is barely working at all.
When you have been driving around in the car recently, has the cars clutch been slipping at all, when driving it uphill at all ?

Thanks Vince. The clutch doesnt slip at all. But yes it is very strange at the moment i'm looking on ebay for gearboxes as well as clutch. I was hopeing some1 from my area or nearby would help i'd love to learn

Took car to the garage this morning, he found what the problem was within two minitues. He said it was something to do with the clutch cable, that it must have loosend at somepoint and the nuts or relese mechanism needs tightning. Hopefully that will be it.

I was reading this thinking the same lol.

Just got back from garage everythings fine once again. Cost me £10 so i'm very pleased
