Autosmart Tardis is easily the best I have ever used. I've never heard anyone mention anything better than it either.

Either Tardis or white spirit. Spray on, leave a minute or two for it to soften the tar then wipe off with a microfibre towel. If it's really baked on you may need to agitate with a brush before you wipe.
Then clay the car and it'll get any you've missed.

yeah a clay bar is decent for removing tar. would using the tar remover as clay bar solution be effective?

I always use a separate tar remover, it makes the whole process quicker. Removing tar with a clay bar takes for what seems years.

Autosmart Taris is the best I have found.
Don't let it run onto plastic trim as it has a tendency to fade it if you leave it on for too long :)
You shouldn't be using a clay bar to remove tar really as A) It takes a while and B) It will ruin the clay bar and the last thing you want to be doing is dragging bits of tar across your bodywork :S
Tardis to remove the tar first, then a decent fallout remover...then a claybar.

I've been using auto glym intensive tar remover like its going out of fashion lately, working wonders on the underside of the car through even the stubborn most build ups

As per Viper's recommendation I bought some tardis and have given it a go this morning.
I've tried the megs stuff previously and wasn't particularly impressed so moved onto the AG stuff which is great and has even been very effective on the underside of the car where tar build up is much thicker than on the paintwork.
I have to agree that the Tardis is even better than the other 2, however it is clearly much harsher. It has shifted the most stubborn hard tar deposits in the wheel arches but do be careful as it has started to eat through the paint. Use it sparingly and don't rub too hard
On the underside I will be sticking with the Tardis all day long, but on the bodywork itself ill stick with the AG stuff as its more than capable of shifting all light tar deposits and does seem kinder on the paint surface.

Tardis is definitely a more harsh product so will certainly remove any wax on the paint. For heavy deposits it's certainly what you need.
I'm surprised it's gone through your paint though, how long did you leave it on for?

To be fair it's not panel paint that its started going through, it's some of the thinner coated bits in the rear arch where to remove the stubborn deposits its needed to be worked in a bit with a light toothbrush.
It has removed the stubborn deposits that the AG stuff wouldn't touch but you can tell that its harsher.
Here's a good advert for the Tardis though, this is the alloy fuel tank heat shield off my AX with a really good thick layer of muck and tar

And this is using nothing but Tardis and a light toothbrush again

Thought I'd post this as a good advert for Tardis and the most stubborn of build ups if anyone is as mental as me to do the underside of a car thoroughly
