View Full Version : Whilst I'm in my gearbox

Hi all

Have been reading threads about gearboxes on here and having changed my clutch and then put a second thrust bearing in have decided its my input bearing that is shot! Going to change it as I can he the bearing and oil seal for less than £15 and nearest new gearbox is about 125 miles away from home! it's a 1.6 vtr 8v on a 51 plate! Thrust bearing was ruined when I bought the car and looked to have got very hot recon that's melted the plastic in the input bearing causing the noise!

From what I can tell the gearboxes are pretty much consumables on the vtr so while I'm inside it is there anything else that's worth replacing? Got the box out and back in routine down to under two hours but it's a pain so would prefer the next time to be the last!

Also seen a chap with updated bearings on here but can't find the article again to price them up!

Am doing this for my brother who's wife is expecting a baby in about three weeks so time is kinda pressing hence starting a new thread if this was the wrong thing to do please accept my apologies!

Any advice welcomed

Thanks

Paul
