Everyone always brings up these threads..
Anyhow, I sold an iPhone 4s on ebay 34 days ago, received positive feedback etc. from the buyer..
Yesterday, he messaged me saying hes not happy the battery connector is faulty, apple won't replace it etc. as its already been opened up by an unauthorised company etc.
Even though i stated apple wont replace it as its over 1 year old, I sent him links to have the battery connector repaired for £20 etc. but hes still not happy, I even offered to pay £20 for the repair because im a soft git an feel bad..
So can he escalate this further with ebay? As its on my mum's ebay so I don't want to ruin her account haha

technically he could raise a claim with paypal I guess but I can't see it getting very far as your sale was along time ago. You should be fine tbh

He's already left positive feedback so he received it working fine. What's he done for the last month? Not charge it?
Clearly fucked it himself. Tell him to jog on.

Exactly what I was going to say. Who's to say that he's making it up or it's broken in his care? I can understand you're trying to do the right thing but I seriously wouldn't go offering him money - it would suggest to me you think you're in the wrong.
Surely the item was sold as seen, and if he's left positive feedback he was happy with the item?

The end, jog on. Transaction completed with positive feedback.
Faulty connector, yeah right. What are the chances he yanked the cable during those 34 days. I wouldn't believe that he found out about it after trying to charge it on the 32nd day :homme:

Offer him a jar of your finest cum as compensation.
Sounds like an opportunistic time-waster.

As said above really, would you take a car back that you'd sold after a month if something was wrong with it?

You can open a claim with PayPal up to 45 days after purchase, although even if he did it won't affect your eBay as he's already left positive feedback

Just say:
The phone was sent in perfect working order, and that the issue has only occured 34 days after you received it or at least you contacted me 34 days after receiving the phone. If you had found a problem when you received the phone I wouldn have happily come to some resolution with you. However, with it being such a long period after the delivery and positive feedback then I can not resolve any issue.
The phone is a second hand item and parts can fail over time, this issue could have happened 2 years later, but the same circumstances apply. Same as when you buy a car and a fault happens a couple of months after you purchase it.
Products do fail and they do deteriorate over time. This should be expected and is common sense. The phone is now your possession and not mine therefore it is down to you to rectify it.

Spot on .....this is why I dread selling over the Internet because PayPal and eBay allways fuck you over and always side with the person making a claim because they get money out of the refund aswell happened to me many times and never received the items back , so basically they have most if there money back and the item

Well yes you could, even as a private seller you need to be aware of the Sale of Goods act. As a buyer, you can take the car back to the seller (within a reasonable time) and reject it under the sale of goods act. If the seller refuses a refund, you can go via the small claims court which allows up to £10k these days.
If you buy a 10k car and the engine dies after a month, are you saying the buyer has no legal grounds? Incorrect, they are protected by the Sale of Goods act and any responsible Car Dealer would know this and be fully aware they could be taken to court if they sell a car which is not fit for purpose.
I recently bought a BMW from a reputable car dealership and the Dual Mass Flywheel gave up after 3 weeks. The dealer said they will only pay for the labour, not the parts as its not an item covered under the warranty. After 3 weeks of arguing, they agreed to pay for everything. I would have taken them to court if they were not prepared to sort it out. Under the sale of goods act, its upto the dealer to prove the fault was not present at the time of sale which is rather difficult to do...

I dread buying from China as obviously you have a lack of communication. I always use a Visa or Mastercard when ordering from their so I can chargeback if any problems occur. Its quite simple.
eBay and Paypal disputes are quite easy and always go in favour of myself, as long as you word everything and explain everything clearly and proffesionally you will almost always win. Ive never lost a case yet!

This
If he raises a case, you just have to show PayPal the feedback you left and the messages showing you were still keen to offer part payment for repairs, they'll see how long he's had it and close the case in your favour

why would you offer to pay him the £20?!
he deserves nothing. Simply tell him (how polite/ rude you deem appropriate) that you've sold it to him in good faith, it was working before, it was working when he recieved it, and since he's recieved it, it was NO longer your responsibility. So please do not contact me again.
he's trying to pull a fast one obviously. Don't be a pushover and pay him anything

What problem did he claim to have with the phone?
On my iPhone 4 the charger would not stay connected and would pop out randomly - I thought it was a broken connection but it was just a build up of dust so the charger wasn't making a full connection all the time. Cleaned it out and works fine now.
He could have a different problem but yeh, jus sayin it could be a free fix!
