266mm brake upgrade, master cylinder and brakes still crap

Planning on roughing the discs and pads up all round at some point and re- bleeding a touch.

On looking, the calipers are direct for and don't seem to have had anything ground off, I'm not sure which calipers or what they're off, but the pads move around a touch. Should there be some kind of metal insert or similar to hold the pads?

I don't have anything but when I reverse they move and squeak a little and wobble, ie when I kick the tyre I can hear / see the pads move!

It isn't ideal and I'd like to sort it ASAP

yeah the pads shouldnt move but generally there is only a spring clip on the outside of them... what pads and disks have you got?

i saw this on a golf once and it was from hard use... new pads sorted it... it dont sound like the case on yours tho... there isnt normally a shim on the fronts but without knowing the calipers its hard to say...
are you sure youve got the correct thickness disk in?

Strange, maybe the spring clip isn't there, my mate fitted them for me as I was busy doing an ice install on another car. The move is more backwards and forwards rather than in and out as it would be with a narrower disc than required

I was semi thinking the move is making them chatter and get hotter than they should be also, they don't seem too great at all, one rear wheel will lock at best, with a 23mm master cylinder and 266 on the front..

I just saw earlier that on another car, I forget what, there was a metal / tin shim under the pad and wondered if maybe this should have something, ill see if I can spot any closer details when I stop through the wheel

Theres a bolt on the carrier that needs to be tightend

I have the bosch type calipers and theres no spring clip thing on the pads. They dont have any play either.

Possible case then, will have to have a quick butchers when I get 5 :)

Yeah when you flip the carrier back over there should be a bolt at the back to pull it in tight.

And that would make the pads move forwards and backwards a touch? Will clean the discs and pads up, check all the bolts and fingers crossed my brakes are better!

Not these bolts, checked everything and pads still move forwards and backwards, can hear them over bumps etc

After driving a 106 1.1 the other day I feel much better about them, but when braking hard, the rears will lock once I slow down a lot but the fronts won't lock at all...

Surely 266mm brakes with a 23mm master cylinder should lock up?

I've had a few oh fuck moments, often feels like they're fading out due to heat though they only smell hot if I'm proper testing them.

The pads definitely move though its an irritating noise almost like there is a clip missing or something :/

Just seems off, all my others have done good. Sold a v reg the other week with 135k on it and the brakes were awesome - really responsive, virtually no pedal travel before braking and just sharp and that was all standard, I feel that mine are awful, gonna bleed them through a little more and see if it helps I guess
