View Full Version : Gone German

Hi everyone,
After my Saxo VTR being written-off I decided to go German as they are better in every way.
Got my hands on a Bora 2000 which is in good condition for year.
The car is currently sitting on coilovers, remapped to 170 bhp and has RS4's wheels.
What does everyone think?

No he wasn't asian lol
I actually like the exhausts but the one on the right needs to be higher up.
Thinking of tinting back windows and getting Alphard alloys for it to start with.
Any other suggestions?

I wouldn't say it's "better in every way" as it's no where near as fun. And IMO driving should be fun.

it's still boring, 170bhp in a barge is not a lot and it handles well, like a barge. It's a boring car but I'm assuming you knew that when you bought it, maybe not though

The reason I went for a Bora is because I needed a 5 door car and was spending too much money on petrol for my VTR.
I like the ride a lot better as well.

Local trip to the McD = saxo
100mile+ commute = anything else.
Comfort = not going to happen in a rattly saxo is it
I wouldn't pay notice to all those who think a saxo is better than anything else. They're nippy, fun to drive and cheap to maintain. Past that there isn't much to brag about, especially when the chav image kicks in.

Nice car btw.
Not sure about the exhaust (matter of taste I suppose) but I'm sure you'll enjoy driving on torque rather than ragging a 1.6 above 5000 to get the same pace. Some kids out there never driven german before yet still have an opinion about it.

Yeah I do love the way it drives.
I think the exhausts are nice but then again just my opinion lol.
It's lowered on coilovers but it seems to be a lot more comfortable driving on shitty roads than the Saxo was.
The power is unreal as well, it pulls like a train so I'm happy with it.
Manu
28th April 2013, 12:12
I did notice the lowering, it suits the wheels great. It is more comfortable because longer wheelbase and suspension that's designed for a heavier car. In a saxo you'll feel every road scar not to mention potholes should you hit one.
It should pull, I guess you're surprised at the difference in torque at low revs.

Yeah big time, once the turbo kicks in it just keeps pulling and it's the same right up till 6th gear.
It feels a lot different than the Saxo I had.
The Saxo pulled well from 1st to 3rd but when getting to 4th / 5th there wasn't much pull off it

Same impressions here but that's the saxo design, more like 0-60 and not much going on thereafter. Then not much going on at all with 2 passengers or more.
Still got a soft spot for saxos as they're fun to drive, but once you grow out of that fun factor you end up looking at other cars. For that matter I don't miss my 106, what a heap of shite once out of town. Last but not least, safety. This week in my area a kid embedded his 106 in a parked truck, probably a combination of too much speed and extremely poor tarmac surface in wet conditions at night. His girlfriend lived but he was the meat in a Daf/pug sandwich.

When I bought other cars. I haven't driven VT all my life and fancied a little over 1587 cc at some point. Besides, the lack of comfort, lack of room, cabin noise + rattling was doing my nuts in. Never been too keen on the pedal displacement either.
Saxos are wee nippy, cheap to maintain and fun round the corners but that's about it. For everything else they don't tick a single box. Oh yes, 60 in second.

I miss my saxo, and the 206 is really the same car in many ways, but rattles less and doesnt feel like somethings going to fall off every minute. It is however dull as fuck to drive, but even that was far better over long journeys as the saxo made me want to stop every hour to recover my back!

I miss my saxo. It might not of been the most confortable car in the world but it cost nothing in fuel (yes there are better cars but I wish I could get 30mpg now, nevermind always getting 40). Servicing is cheap, parts are very cheap and if you buy a good one an look after it they're reliable in my experience. Pretty much all the jobs can be done at home with basic tools. They're pretty quick and good fun.
I bought an mx5 and got rid of the saxo. It was good fun and a great drive but I think the saxo probably won on fun. I really regret selling my saxo tbh.
Most of the German stuff doesn't appeal to me tbh. It's not half as reliable as people make out, they cost more when they do go wrong and they are just boring to drive. Capable maybe but so bloody dull.
Don't even get me started on landrovers...

IMO I think German cars are far more reliable than Saxo's.
I have had two Saxo's within the last couple of years and had nothing but problems with them.
German parts are more expensive yes but last a lot longer than French parts.
Plus the 1.9 tdi engines are bulletproof

Like boras, this one isn't great, just my opinion.. Don't like the wheels, exhaust, or plates! It's not a sporty car to suit 2 exhausts..
Could be made to be decent with a hidden exhaust, maybe some nicer wheels, nothing too special, just something nicer, and not as battered.. Standard plates as well, then its dirt cheap to lower these, so that could easily be done..
Like said, you say its better than a saxo in every way.. VW came so low in a recent reliability poll didn't they? Just because its German, doesn't make it bullet proof.. You need jap for that.
As long as you like it though..
