A little vid of the instructor at Teesside autodrome driving my evo round the track, some points he had it spitting foot long flames was impressive to watch :y: sadly didn't get the flames in the vid

Why weren't you in the car with him if he is an instructor?

I wanted to watch my car in action I was there for fun didn't really want to take the edge of it by having instructions although it would of been good to learn a bit

Wtf?

Please tell me you didn't pay this man to thrash your car?

Yates

How would learning best way to take track take the edge of it?!

Nice. He gets to wreck your car, and you pay him to do it?

But by being in the car you can feel what the car is doing, see what the driver is doing. Being stood at the edge of the track is a waste of time.

Pay me to rag your car around the track OP?

:D

I give competitive prices. So pay me to rag it around a track.

I didn't pay him it was just so a i could get a few snaps and a video for myself, plus it was good fun to watch the car be driven by a professional.

This was towards the end of the day for me, so it was just so i could get some shots in, a couple of friends did get him to give them lessons at £20 but they said it was difficult to apply what he was saying in the time you have and there was some quite fast track drivers on the track so you always had someone wanting to go past.

There was a dude in a silver clio, now that dude could drive! car didn't go very fast in straight line but in and out of the corners he was really quick

Fuck that, I'd hate to watch someone else driving my car around the track, leave the camerawork to someone else and drive it round yourself!

It's a shame Teesside is so small, only 25 mins for me to get there

Teeside is a decent carting track and nothing more. It needs very little to no skill to get decent times. they kill all the decent corners when they swap from carting to cars.

worth doing still, this was open pit lane so literally just turn up and drive around the track all day unlimited to how much track time you get

Love full track when carting.

Blackburn get yourself to croft

Why didn't you ask the instructor to do a bit of filming while you took your own car out and gave it the beans? Looks a good little karting track tbh - much prefer Brands personally though :D

Croft is a pain in the ass since it's been noise limited. They're only allowed to use it for 40 days of the year or something stupid like that so it's not surprising the costs are high. Screwed up the odd rally that happens there as well and they had to move the data a year or so ago to push it into the next window of days that can be used.

Pretty much mate, I think last year they'd used all their "noisy" days after just a few moths which screwed all sorts of shows/meets up

All because of a couple of local tossers (I'm sure it also stemmed from a dispute from the owner and his ex wife as well) that moved in close to the already established track and moaned about the noise. Right bunch of shite.

Again, basically yeah lol, most of the noisy days get taken up with Motorsport events aswel, track days there are boned really lol

The amount you've likely spent boosting your car etc you could have had a road car and a rally car in the wings :P

It's not as much as you'd think ;)

It's cost a bit, but I like a bargain hunt tbh, had I built it now rather then when I started...easy half the price, but when I first started there wasn't a lot of ppl willing to help and wasn't "as much" knowledge freely available, not long after I did it there was millions of projects popping up and loads more info about, so I could of done a fair few things cheaper

But you live and learn :p

Kebabman
6th May 2013, 00:25
Aye, kudos for you to doing it anyway as it looks like a good piece of kit and you've likely learned a lot in the process. That said, sell it and do yourself a rally car, much more fun :)

blackie_2k5
6th May 2013, 00:29
Defo mate :)

Couldn't sell it though.. I've tried several times, too much fun and as shit as it is I love it too much

I'm wanting to build a sprint/hill climb car but at the moment new business plans are top of the table, that's why the Saxo hasn't had a load more skunked on it lol

Aye, sod selling it, it is a love of labour after all! Sod a sprint car, get a 1.0 saxo and build a f1000 rally car out of it, cheap as chips and rallying is shit loads better than sprinting. IMO of course :)

In all honesty I don't think I could manage the cost of rallying mate, sprints/hills climb for my own pleasure I think yeah.. But at 24 with a lass and Bairn in my own home/lifestyle and toys, probs a bit out of my reach at the moment :n:

With tarmac single venue stuff it's likely not as expensive as you think, and a bloody good day out especially if you have a co-driver that contributes. Entry anywhere from 120 upwards, tyres are as much as you want to spend, getting to and from the venue, bit of fuel etc. Bargain!

Regs are a lot more strict in rallying though yeah? So bigger initial spends?

Kebabman
6th May 2013, 01:38

Yeah but still not massive. As with sprints etc the outlay would be quite similar. Strip the car, cage, seats, fire extinguishers, harnesses etc. Pretty much the same stuff you'd be doing to a sprint car.

Need log booked for rally's though yeah? Lead to believe you don't for hill/sprint?

Need to look into the regs more tbf.. But I know it's a mine field..so need to pick one route or the other before researching

Yeah you need to be log booked for rallying so it is a bit more tricky. But to be fair most of the stuff you need to get a log book I wouldn't want to go out without if I was sprinting or hill climbing anyway. Most of the stuff is pretty standard stuff that you will be fitting anyway, there are just a few oddities that are required such as mud flaps, window film (if using glass windows) etc but most is just the common sense stuff such as cage, seats, harnesses, extinguishers etc that you would want in any competition car.
