Polishing Steel

Wasn't really sure where to put this.

Does anyone know if you can polish steel to a mirror finish equal to say, a chrome split rim lip?

Also, if you can, would you have problems with it rusting? Would lacquering it protect it?

You can polish to a mirror finish,but it will rust mate.

yeah dont polish it mate, it would probably rust.
