View Full Version : Modded Cars = Attraction to Thieves?

I've wondered about this earlier today as my car was broken in to earlier this morning. So do modded cars attract thieves more than standard cars?
Luckily I was awake (4am) and heard some sound, had a look out my window and saw some prick with a torch rumbling through my car. Ran down, opened my front door and chased the prick. Didn't manage to take anything as I had nothing in the car.
I used to have a 1.4 Yaris before switching to a Saxo and never had a break in.
What's your verdict?

A mate had her centre caps and side skirts robbed off her fiesta st last night.....scumbags
But to answer the op's question, modified cars attract more attention as the parts are worth more and sell quicker

Mine doesn't get touched (just everyone elses on my road) lol.
Except for a couple of weeks back, some little shit pinched 1, yes 1 lego dustcap and left the other 3 on :/
shit man, sorry to hear that!
and to answer your question yes i think so back in the day, but not so much nowadays as the security is too good, they will try and get the keys and take the whole car. But just for stealing cd players ect, most of them arnt too much money nowadays (not worth going to prison lol) so the person in your case must of been really desperate!
a little tip for next time (i hope there isnt a next time) is to get a alarm fitted or get this......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQbHnLSasfQ

I remember a guy on ZSOC had his seats stolen, think the theives had to manoeuvre them through the window and somehow unbolt them with the door closed

Of course they do. Why break into a standard car when there's a modded one sat right next to it with the possibility of hundreds of pounds worth of audio equipment inside?
It's common sense really....

There's plenty of reasons why thief's are attracted to cars and its not just because its modifications. Sometimes easier to break into. I'm sure there's cars out there with wheels worth more than plenty of the cars on here so they probably attract thief's just as much.

probably also more likely to have an aftermarket alarm though.
I think theives are just attracted to something easy, i've only had one car broken into, i'd left my uni back on the passenger seat
they left my sub, amp, headunit and everything though.

Before I had the BMW, all my cars has 'modifications' of some point and never once were they broken into.
Sometimes its just down to being unlucky.

When I had a pikey family living next door to me,all of my cars always got broken into.
They moved away 6yrs ago no break ins now.

My next door neighbours car had this done on her locks literally a few nights ago. They're light sleepers, Big ol dave was right out in a flash beating the shit out this lad.
Most people/thugs and what not in my local area know not to touch local cars. If anything it's a benefit to living in a community of curtain twitchers. Very little occurs.

For stealing things out of yes but the actual cars no. The ones you see on all the tv program's are like Audi's, bmw's etc

common bits on st is centre caps, rear diffuser and splitter, skirts, grills/plastics.
all just unclip and are worth loads.
£50 a set of centre caps to start with...
