Hi guys its comming up for mine and the gfs 3 year anniversary when i was little i went on holiday to florida and i found this oyster that had a pearl in it i have kept the pearl as ive never known what to do with it over the last few years with the gf ive bought her most jewellery bracelet earings rings etc but never a necklace aswell as our 3 year anniversary its her 21st the month after so i was thinking of having the pearl made into a one off custom necklace for her as both occassions are next to eachother i thought i could combine monies and spend it all on one thing ive looked at a few sites and this maybe a random question but does anyone know of any places that will make jewellery to specific requests??? rep for help i have 2 months!!

just give her the the pearl in the oyster, then she/you both can make the decision of what to turn it into.

the novelty of the pearl in the oyster will please the pants off her............... with sexy results :)

VTaaRon
26th August 2006, 14:17
i dont have the oyster just the pearl there was something at customs about shells or something!

pricey_vtr
26th August 2006, 14:17
have a search on google for 'custom made jewellery' and you will find plenty of places in the uk tha =t will do it for you but you will need to call round and see if they can deffo do what you want

doubledavies
26th August 2006, 14:19
just give her the pearl or buy an oyster and ditch/eat the insides (meant to be sexy)

if you do that she will realise the trouble/effort you went through to get it rather than think you just bought it

Take her on holiday and give her it then! Something like 2 nights in Prague or something... Shouldn't cost too much!

Take her on holiday and give her it then! Something like 2 nights in Prague or something... Shouldn't cost too much! as ive just left uni and not got a job yet i think itll be more than i can afford tho theres that new dirty dancing musical starts around her birthday might get her tickets so she can dress up and were the necklace to

bullit
26th August 2006, 16:06
you could go to a restuarant and eat oysters then accidently find it ha ha

David
26th August 2006, 16:39

just give her the pearl or buy an oyster and ditch/eat the insides (meant to be sexy)

if you do that she will realise the trouble/effort you went through to get it rather than think you just bought it

that idea sounds the best, most females love it when you go out of the way like that, do that then let her decide how she would like to where it, or you could look into the links, get a phew ideas going, then when you give it to her (pearl) let her know how she could have it made into something:thumbup:

saxyVTRsaxo
26th August 2006, 17:48
i no it sounds a bit pricey but if you go to Knightsbridge in London there are a lot of custom jewelery shops that are pretty much just outside Harrods. If you went in there and had a chat with someone im sure they could work something out for you and might be able to work it around your budget.

26th August 2006, 18:42
make it yourself with some old saxo bits and a drill :D:

VTaaRon
26th August 2006, 22:35
my gf like myself isnt a lover of sea food so would never even look at trying an oyster im afraid! like the idea of the hotel theatre break means id have to go see dirty dancing to tho! not sure on that ill check out prices tho

VTaaRon
26th August 2006, 22:50
ummm right just checked the net and abby tickets are selling tickets for dirty dancing on my gfs birthday but there £69.20 each!! anyone know a better place to buy theatre tickets?

Lauraj85
26th August 2006, 22:50
try, www.liliandesigns.co.uk its in wiltshire & she is contactable so would be able to incorparate your pearl into something, and how about making it triple special as pearls are usually associated as weeding jewlery, so it could be made into a one off really special, meaningfull engagement ring, belive me us girls prefer mening over bling sometimes, sorry if your not that far down the line but I have it on the brain I get married on Monday!!!

1522 Kinda good example of what she can do, good luck, but you've allrady done good cos you've put thought & effort into it, thats more than enough!

VTaaRon
26th August 2006, 22:56
that ring does look good im a designer so was hoping to be able to meet the person and give them a few ideas i have that way it will be a one off custom unique design that ive had input into if not designed completely cheers for the link

VTaaRon
26th August 2006, 23:12

Aaron that would look amazing on a necklace, very elegant in white or yellow gold. Believe me, as a girl, that's a really sweet thing to do especially as you've had it for ages.

You'll need a specialist jewellers, but to keep costs within your budget i'd suggest they use parts such as the stone setting and a chain from someone like Cookson (http://www.cooksongold.com) which is the catalogue most jewellers use.

VTaaRon
27th August 2006, 16:32
i was thinking white gold would look the best with it dont think shes really into yellow gold so thats a no i have spoken to someone who will get back to me in a couple of days with a few designs hope there good want it to be worth it think ill speak to a few others to tho get quite a few design ideas and prices etc do you think i should do theatre tickets for the anniversary and the necklace for her 21st im thinking thats the way round i should do it

lozi_murias
27th August 2006, 16:39
I would defo go with the necklace for her 21st and the tickets for the anniversary....I would also agree that white gold looks a lot classier than yellow gold, glad you're getting it sorted anyway Aaron :)

David
27th August 2006, 17:03
Superbreak as I said mate...
Or lastminute.com

VTaaRon
27th August 2006, 17:07
cheers ill keep you up dated ill post up the designs when i get the maybe some of my own to get a poll of which is best

VTaaRon
30th August 2006, 01:22
ok i really didnt want the pearl to have to be drilled so i started working on a design for the pendant part not finished but so far this is where im at ...

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b267/VTaaRon/pearlpendant.jpg

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b267/VTaaRon/pearlpendant3.jpg

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b267/VTaaRon/pearlpendant2.jpg

remembering the size of the pearl this hanging down will be a lot smaller than it appears in these pics i knew if it wernt drilled it would need to be caged and didnt like the idea of a basic wrap around if you know what i mean? let me know what you think cheers

VTaaRon
30th August 2006, 11:24
haha ok i was thinking how to have it on the chain and i thought simple would be best but what you think top ball will have a hole in for the chain to run through and was thinking an 18" chain??? gonna be in silver as i think white gold will tarnish etc to much and as you shouldnt get cleaner on the pearl (thats right been doing my research!) better alround to go silver....again let me know what you think just one pic this time so not to confuse (baz hahaha).....

nice are you a 3d artist or something coz it looks top.

lozi_murias
30th August 2006, 13:42
You can get specialist cleaning stuff for pearls... and silver will discolour a lot easier than white gold tbh, although it is a lot easier for jewellers to work with as it's softer. 18" chain is about right, will hang nicely, and the cage design is gorgeous, she will be very impressed!

(Lol at numpty Baz :P )

all computers my boy easy if you know how! takes a while to learn tho!

yeah and silvers better on my pocket! haha so you think itll be ok in silver i dont think itll be used loads anyway and kept out of harms way when not in use im getting quotes at the moment on the design its basically just the cage i need as i can get a chain for it myself got one quote but was £200 in white 9ct gold!! will let you know what else comes in

VTaaRon
30th August 2006, 22:59
more feedback on this peeps on the design etc as its gonna cost loads want it to be right

VTaaRon
5th September 2006, 10:19
ok had to change the design slightly as the measurements i used on the old design were a bit off new design:

Pearl : 7.25mm diameter
18ct white gold cage wire : 1mm diameter
top ball : 2mm diameter : hole for chain 1mm??
bottom ball : 2mm diameter

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b267/VTaaRon/pearlpendant4-4.jpg

and if it were possible for the cage to be thinner like this:

That design looks really nice, I'm sure she will love it.

Have you given any thought to what chain you’re going to get?

If you get a Rolo chain or a Figaro chain, may I suggest that you have the pendant attached to one of the links so it doesn’t slide around and break, and also the pendant wont slide off and get lost if the clasp should break!

Zoë

Robb
5th September 2006, 10:42
Yeh I'd try and get it pretty thin, and get it done in silver as gold is gay...

Zoë i think im gonna wait to see the pendant made before choosing the chain to get a better idea of what will look best but hope to get an 18" with a adjuster at 16" not gonna have it attatched to a link as i like the idea of it moving a bit plus it wont be worn loads so fingers crossed not the risk of getting lost!!

Yeh I'd try and get it pretty thin, and get it done in silver as gold is gay... it will be 18ct white gold will look pretty much the same as silver but wont tarnish as easily plus its not as flimsy as silver so will hold form longer and be easier for the goldsmith to work with

Robb

Good thinking...

lozi_murias
5th September 2006, 15:23
I do like the new design, you're right about the thinner cage bits they would get broken very easily. Glad you chose the white gold - 18ct, very classy!

You know you said the hole at the top for the chain is 1mm...will a chain actually fit thru that? - I don't quite get how you intend it to be attached?

Bet you can't wait 'til your gf sees it, she's gonna be so thrilled with it!

VTaaRon
5th September 2006, 16:06
You know you said the hole at the top for the chain is 1mm...will a chain actually fit thru that? - I don't quite get how you intend it to be attached?

Umm i wasnt sure that was the only bit that was confusing me i could have the top ball slightly larger and have the hole larger basically i wanted the chain to just run through the hole in the ball and cut out the need for an extra loop if that makes sense? so itll be just the pendant and the chain

lozi_murias
5th September 2006, 16:12
Yeah, i am fairly sure you will need a hole bigger than 1mm then.
For example, the chain i am wearing now, which is fairly thin, is about 2mm wide and the 'hole' is huge in comparison to that to allow it to move around.

To avoid changing your design too much you may have to consider using an extra link to fasten it....

VTaaRon
5th September 2006, 17:52
umm might be a plan ill see how it looks withe a 4mm ball on top with a 2mm hole or 2.25mm hole

VTaaRon
7th September 2006, 01:23
ok i altered the design very slightly making the top ball 3.25mm with the hole now 2.25mm which should allow for a chain 1.75mm or 2.02mm to fit nicely, as i changed the top i wanted to keep it fairly even and made the bottom ball slightly larger to now 2.5mm here are final design pics let me know what you guys think

Is it going to be gold or silver? Well done mate on the design.
18ct white gold mate will cost £100 just for this pendant part to be made which i think is fairly reasonable

forgot to put Lozi what style chain do you reckon would go best with it??

amy_1
7th September 2006, 10:02
Wow, that looks really nice, i would be really pleased if my bloke gave that to me. you have put a lot of thought and effort into it.

VTaaRon

lozi_murias
8th September 2006, 18:52
they say they can do me one with it for £35

- Is that for making your (great) design, plus the chain??
If so, that is VERY reasonable....I am by no means an expert but I was thinking nearer double that, I doubt you will beat that quote! :Y:

VTaaRon
8th September 2006, 20:35
no im afraid thats just the chain the cage design will be £100 on its own! sorry to say

lozi_murias
9th September 2006, 08:42
Lol indeed, too good to be true....Still, £35 for an 18ct white gold chain is very good! Get pics up of the chain design if / when you can :Y:

VTaaRon
9th September 2006, 09:29
i will do actually this might be a bit strange but if you send me a picture of yourself just a closeup of your neck with a chain (silver or white gold) on i should be able to put the pendant i designed on it to see how it would really look

VTaaRon
12th September 2006, 10:57

very nice dude. im sure she will really appreciate it. it looks awsome and im sure the value of it wouldnt matter to her, as what you have done has shown alot of heart and thought, plus sentimental value of the pearl etc...
