View Full Version : e-cigarettes ? / Smoking alternatives

Do you find them an acceptable alternative.
Do you use them or perhaps know someone that does ?
Just wondering how long these will go under the " safe alternative " label, before someone does proper research into them and finds out they're no better than the standard cigarette.
I personally cringe when i see someone smoking one in a pub, not because it bothers me or offends me at all and fair play for trying to ditch the habit, but I bet there are people out there who have become so accustomed to the none smoking rule indoors, that even the site of it is unacceptable.
I'm waiting for the day they're banned tbh.
I also feel that they don't really discourage people from smoking, my mate has been smoking one for ages, it's like there is no urgency now to quit because it's "safe".... in addition, if anything they're encouraging people who didn't smoke before, to take it up, in the belief they aren't harmful...... I'm dubious.
What are your thoughts ?

I dont know about smoking wise mate but I have been using a vaporisor for my hay fever this year and it works a hell of a lot better with none of the nasty shit. So I'm guessing it will be safer for you as well as getting the "fix" better.
Ive tried them. Taste horrible lol. Not too bad but i dont think theyll stop you smoking lol
Im stopping mext week when im not at work to get stressed haha

I used to use a e cig to get off fags and it worked a treat. Ended up prefering it to proper fags, smoke it where you want, less chance of health issue (apparently) and you dont stink

Just to clarify i'm not a regular smoker any more... During the week I don't touch them at all. However, after a few pints i'm known to have a cig sometimes.

Did it get you off them in the end then ?

I personally find them annoying as fuck. People walk into my shop and just casually smoke them. I couldn't give a toss if they're safe, it's rude and ignorant.
Fair play if you're actually trying to stop, but most of the time, people use them as an excuse to get a fix indoors.
I also think it's a cheaper fix aswell if you buy your juice in bulk then freeze it or add your own flavours.
Health wise, I wouldnt immagine it to be as harmful as smoking the real deal though, for one your not inhaling the tar, coals, soot etc.

I use one.
I spend about £10 per week on the fluid, as opposed to about £6 or £7 per day on cigarettes. I still smoke, but only about half of the normal cigarettes I used to.
And I think they're pretty safe. From what I've read, e-cig liquid is 100% nicotine, so no dangerous chemicals and no smell either.

I try to use mine when no-one's looking, cos it's about the size of a cigar and has a gold battery on!

15 years of smoking (maybe more), been smoke free for exactly 6 months today, started with a cig alike, now am on to more interesting mods, my current fave (well one of them) (not my pic but looks exactly the same)

making my own flavours of liquid, building coils and wicks learning a hell of a lot about electronics batteries etc, its a hobby now. and still a hell of a lot cheaper than buying regular cigs,
there is quite a bit of research being done has been done on the effects but really nicotine and some vg vapour as opposed to 4000 odd chemicals, will take my chances. and i can blow clouds huge clouds.

Got one to replace smoking, + to smoke inside.
Tasted better / cheaper / smoke where you want with no smell.
Smoked it for 4 months.. Then got a really bad sore throat, so couldn't take a drag without coughing.
Now i don't smoke.. Win.
Nothing wrong with them imo.. Beats smoking, and weens you off the real things.
e-cig liquid is 100% nicotine, so no dangerous chemicals
nicotine is a poison, has the potential to be deadly in some cases.

Smoker for about 11 years, smoke free since september 2012 !
After trying two times to quit , i believe that it is only up to you to decide and quit , ecig or nicotine gum - patches get you more hooked and are more addictive that smoking !
Also i noticed that when smoking you enjoy the whole procedure of having a packet, lighter on you and kicking back and having a smoke, so i just minimized to smoking 2-3 a day that i actually felt i needed for 3 months so i guess it was easier at the end!!!
Word of advise though let everyone know you are quiting because your nerves will be quite on the limit......

I don't smoke but I fail to see the problem with something designed to help people give up smoking and it's saving them money.
OP, why do you always have some sort of vendetta going on? Do you think that by moaning about everything as much as you do people will actually listen to what you're saying?

I also see no problem with this, I'm sure if there was a health problem involved with smoking ecigs, it would have been tested and well known by now - and even if it was bad for you, I doubt it can be worse than smoking tobacco.
As for smoking ecigs indoors, I see no problem. It's illegal to smoke indoors but ecigs give off vapor, not smoke. So whats the problem? It has virtually no smell and would not 'smog out' a room if there was a few people using them.
i dont understand why people get pissed off when people use them in pubs etc..

Possibly because its illegal as the picture on page one states.
just because that picture says it is doesnt mean it actually is lol it could be from anywhere. Plus youre not doing any harm smoking them indoors...
edit - just saw uk on the picture lol

For those unaware, nicotine is a direct carcinogen.

I am signed up to this website and this is a general thread, for a GENERAL subject. As you can see most people here are contributing as normal. If you don't like the thread don't click on it. Easy. By clicking on it you listened to me.... You also responded.
As for me having a vendettea ? WTF are you talking about. I'm just asking if people think they're an acceptable alternative in public and whether you guys have heard the rumours that they're not as good for you as they would like to make out. I didn't once moan in my post. If you bothered to read it i said fair play and that they don't actually bother me, but i cringe because i know SOME people take offense, given the fact the smoking ban is drilled into people.
I have no idea why you felt the need to say what you did other than you're bored or just a prick.

Why would anyone possibly take offence to someone smoking an electronic fag?
Out of interest what kind of people do you know that take offence to it?

Well, I'm just asking aren't I... I don't really give a shit myself. But again, because people are so accustomed to the ban, seeing someone puff something and blow a cloud of smoke near you ( scent free or not ) might offend people.
People on here proved it, some have said they don't really like the look of it.
I just don't see why you targeted me the way you did when i've opened a perfectly normal thread raising debate. My actual main point was referring to the fact that, despite what you guys think about them being safe, there is't a great deal of research on them. So basically I was interested to see if anyone heard that they were bad for you. As someone stated, Nicotine itself is a direct carcinogen.

Your OP made it sound like you knew something about these fags being lethal to us (conspiracy theory lols etc) So I assumed you'd been sniffing around the internet looking for facts and opinions on these e fags, basically claiming they were a threat to us.
Clearly you haven't thank god, I'm sure there are lots of people though who have. The same kind who still think 911 wasn't terrorist related.
