How do they work? do you sign over your car to them and if you don't pay up they take your car??

yeah, you're car is used as collateral incase you default on your repayments

Santander do finance on anything now.. So most small garages will be using them (lots round my way are)

If its up for 1-2k they'll just finance it.. Same as you would with a laptop or iPad etc
