View Full Version : Speeding/Average Speed Cameras

Hi,

I think I might've been doing more than 50mph in a 50 limit on the motorway at average speed cameras. More than 10mph over 50.

It's been 14 days and I haven't received a letter, though. Does this mean that if I receive the fine/points letter after 14 days I can argue my case in court and potentially have the case dropped?

I heard if you don't receive a letter after 14 days of the fine issued, then you have legal rights for it to be dropped (not sure if true) and courts will drop the case.

Also, say I got the 3 points and already have 3 points (first two years of driving) but receive the letter after my second year of driving (and technically now have 12 point limit) (there's literally less than a month til I have that limit) will I lose my licence? As I received the letter at current 12 point limit just after 2 years of driving? Or would I still lose it despite just gaining 12 point limit?

I've also heard about the 14 day thing. Not sure if true though unfortunately.

As for the 12 point thing, not so sure. I think they'd have the date you offended which would've been when you were in the 6 point limit, so for that reason you'd probably still lose your licence? Though I'm not sure about this so will need clearing up from another member.

There was recently a very similar thread to this.

But to sum up, you will get a letter eventually and you will go to prison where you will be violently skull fucked.

There's another option, which is to drive at 50 in a 50 when its enforced by average speed cameras... why put yourself through the pain of waiting for a letter when you could just go that little bit slower.

It's not like its not noticeable as well - everyone around you would be doing 50, there's signs up to tell you its 50, and bright yellow cameras every few hundred yards too.

You have to be pretty damn idiotic to get caught by average cameras tbh.

None of this would have happened if you had of stuck to the speed limit..Only yourself to blame in all honestly

Just to clarify - everyone speeds, but you've got to be doing something completely retarded to do it through a set of average cameras. It's not like they're not visible...!

Haha makes me laugh when everyone slams on their brakes before the average speed cameras....clearly they have no idea how they work!

OP will probably be fine, especially as its been 2 weeks and you haven't got a letter.

There are now average speed checks on the M25 going across the Dartford bridge, was on there the other day and plenty of people were doing 70+.

Thing is it's a slip road, was at night and wasn't noticable at all.

There's not even cones on this slip road I don't think? (Slip road exiting motorway) But I've been told they hang and do point at the slip road...

Does there have to be cones for it to be officially average speed camera testing

SaxoVTS16VV

Plus I'm just asking a question, tbh if I wanted a fucking lecture on whether I should be sticking to the speed limit and only have myself to blame, I'd go to my nan.

With respect...

Doesn't matter if its 14 days or more, if that was the case, you would just get people saying "i never received a letter.."

If it comes, it won't get dropped by the court.. The 2 year 6 points thing, goes on time of offence, not time of conviction.. So you would have 6 points in your 1st 2 years of driving, and would have to resit your theory, and practical parts of the test

Yes, but your posts need to be legible otherwise there is not point posting as they cannot be read. If your posts are awkward to read then no one will bother reading them.

And to the OP, if you think you were touching 60 in a 50 average speed camera zone, I think you would have gotten away with it. Your speedometer over compensates how fast you're going, plus you could probably factor in variables in slowing down and speeding up. I reset my trip everyday before I go on the A46 and it's 70mph all along there, and my average speed is always 45mph.

The speed cameras on the M25 were still not working up to a couple of months ago, regardless of the signs they put up.

Funny that, because i got 6 points when id been driving just under 2 years, and i just had to resit my test.. So it IS true.

As for the letter, thats bull shit. Did the courts write to you saying "we were going to send you a letter, but its past 14 days now, so we won't bother".. Didn't think so.

I think your brother probably got banned, because he was being a cunt, driving a car that wasn't road worthy.

I'm shitting it, variable speed limits on M1, wasn't paying attention to them was following traffic in fast Lane and I didn't see any speed cameras, expecting the yellow average speed ones, but turns out they are on there back of the pylon thingies... brilliant. No idea what speed I was doing. It was quite congested so I hope the other cars were in the limits, think I'll pay more attention in future.

Where are these variable limits on the M1?

If its average speed limits then its those yellow cameras.

If you are talking about the ones on the back of the gantrys that occasionally have the lines on the road afterwards then these are only operational when a speed is displayed on the screan infront of it.

Your brother sounds like one of the retards who will end up with driving convictions for the rest of his life because he thinks it's his god given right to drive even if he can't afford it or be bothered to do things properly.

Aye the ones near nottingham are like that anywhos. They go off if your doing over 92mph when theres no speed limit displayed, totherwise active when lit.
But I do that stretch of m1 so often you know where they all are. It just gets on my tits when all four lanes are clogged by people side by side, doing 70mph cacking themselfs at each gantry or braking...
I never speed though.

Although I don`t drive on that stretch of the M1 it does make me wonder,if these cameras actually cause accidents.People are so busy looking at the cameras/speed signs & not concentrating on actually driving.:drink:
