I brought a cheap car buffer from that well known car care shop Argos, I was really reluctant but I gave it ago and all was well.
You can use it to apply the polish aswell but it was using a 1/4 of the bottle on each panel so I knocked that on the head and just used it to buff the polish up.
Here are the results:

I couldn't justify spending £100+ on a buffer either so this seems to be a good cost effective alternative.
The car should have been slammed on its arse this weekend but there has been in delay in the delivery of the coilovers so its new lowered look will be unveiled at Trax now.

Use good old elbow grease like i do i.e hand apply with meguiars applicator(comes with the nxt generation wax) and halfrauds buffer (looks like a tiny sheep with no legs or head) :)

I have the above andI'm still using the applicator but this electric buffer makes life alot easier and quicker. Although it cant do some of the trickier places so you still need the headless sheep.
In regards to the buffer it is rotary and the pads are machine wasable I have no idea how long they'll last but I'm sure you could track some more down without too much hassle or just buy a new one.
The dearer one didn't seem to have any real benefits over the one I brought but its only a fiver more so you may aswell give it a go.

Got one of the £15 ones today...its brilliant! The wire on it was a bit short, it kept pulling out of the extension but I've put a longer wire on it now and its all good!

Your right mate the wire is abit short but its no real hassle.
I put some more layers on the car today but by the time I'd finished the sun had gone so you dont get the full effect. Be warned theres also an attempt at an "Arty" shot.

Looks good. Just remember folks, these high street buffers are perfectly fine for applying products and saving arm work when buffing off, but they aren't going to remove defects, only hide them. If this suits, then they are a good buy, but if you want a corrective tool then the £100+ a Porter Cable costs is worth the outlay. :)

Totally agree with PB, what you pay is what you get but for £15 i couldnt resist :P

how do you use one? just straight onto the car after a was with nothing on the pad?i have not a clue people lol!
ets2k9
29th August 2006, 20:31
They dont perform miracles and the same results can be achieved with manual labour but it just takes the effort out of cleaning.
In regards to how you use it it just a case of running it over the car to buff up the polish, there not much else to it.
Barry123
29th August 2006, 20:33
yeah i didn't fancy using mine to apply the polish. I just used it as a buffer to remove the canubra wax

so am i right you apply the wax, rub it in the go over it with one of these?
moist_gibbon
29th August 2006, 20:48
2 ways of doing it ...u can use it to apply the wax .. but it uses alot with the cheap ones ... or u can apply the wax by hand and use the fluffy head to buff it off
im using mne for the 2nd
