Hi, I have a W reg Golf GTI, it has just randomly decided that the immobilizer wants to be active and the alarm goes off every 10 seconds for 30 seconds even though I have now taken the battery out!

Even if I lock the car it goes off and if I unlock it, if I try to start it it says "Immobilizer Active" on the dash and it'll start but turns straight off again, alarm still going.

My key fob has never worked I have always had to use the key to unlock and lock it so I don't see how this could be a problem? Not as if the battery in the key has gone and it isn't reading the chip anymore, because it has never worked lol. It's never been programmed.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? Please :)

It probably wont be an issue you can fix at home.

It looks like something has lost its coding. If you can get it to a VW specialist or VW themselves, they will be able to plug it in and it will either show what isnt communicating, or they will be able to download a log of all the coded items and find out what one is playing up.

If its something like the dash thats lost its coding they will be able to recode it and hopefully happy days !

Check the door pins aren't jamming anywhere.. If not its diagnostic time as said

Alarm will have a back up battery.. It'll go flat but not quickly lol, best bet is deactivate the alarm or the back up battery

your transponder is not giving a reading. Try to get hold of some AA / RAC dude with a transponder reader and see if your key actually sends a signal, you'll know if it's the key or the car.

To reset the fob, you have to insert the key and turn in the ignition (do not start the engine)while pressing and holding the open button for 5 seconds, then keep pressed while taking the key off. Basically this happens anytime you unplug the battery, the car loses sync with the fob.

You can also get a vag com usb plug for a fiver, download the rosstech VCDS-lite software and read the faults on the car if there's any.

If none of the above works, there are companies that bypass your immobiliser if you send that a with your keys.
My mate just had to do it and did cost a lot less than getting a new key programmed. Depends if you want the immobiliser to work afterwards really.

it depends on whats at fault tbf.
it is more than probable going to be a key/transponder fault, but if its something else thats causing the issue, it might not work.

The key, transponder, dash unit, and other bits and bobs are linked to the immobiliser, until you know whats at fault, they wont know what to bypass?

A transponder chip is cheap as chips. I'll get my coat.

Yeh true, but I mean if they bypass the immobiliser itself then the car will not be immobilised. You'll just put the key in and turn.

My key has never been synchronized with the car, it has never worked, plus it has never had any batteries in it either... =/

buy a battery and sync it then?
