No idea how I haven't seen this already!
It would appear that the UKs first purpose built drift track is already part way through being built!

Based in Lochgelly, Fife, Scotland. We are 20 minutes from Edinburgh and around 1hr from Glasgow.

Been following this on fb for a while, used to be a go-kart track, they completely flattened it out, widened up the track and now tarmacking it.

Will be awesome when its done.
Funny when you see it started out as a crappy kart track that a few of the guys had a shot drifting on and the idea grew arms and legs and now it will be opening in June/july

Few local lads I know go up to Knockhill now and then for it, when its on, no doubt they'll head up there too.
I'll try and get up there at somepoint, has a Ebisu look to it..

Not sure if you're referring to 'Hard Parkers' or novices buying a cheap car to try and get in to skidding. The latter will be the ones attending such a place, which doesn't bother me at all, good to see people enjoying themselves and being able to go balls out on what looks to be a lairy track.

One of the silliest things I've read on here :fcuk:
That's like a scotsman saying, nah... No point building g a track in Berkshire, ppl won't go
It's the only purpose built drift track in the country... Ppl travel allover the world for tracks etc, take the ring for example
It'll make a mint I think.. Get yourself on drift works and tell them it's a fad that no one will travel for :panic:

Haha exactly! Everyone's going mental for it, and rightly so. I'll be planning a long weekend trip up there when it's all done.
Looks like they're making it nice and wide, wouldn't surprise me if BDC take an interest in it soon enough.

Crail, knock hill, and this all in the same area, pretty decent.
There is also another race track being built near Stranraer iirc, also, a huge number of years ago (8?) a Dutch billionaire wanted to build a massive track like a mini nurburgring up here iirc, that got rejected by the government for planning, believe its built in Spain now.. Churning funk loads of money
I think now they realise it can calm people down, rather than trying to do it on the street..

The Jumanji Nights events they have at the stock car oval are decent. Last 1 a cpl of weeks back was good. Fiver to get in and its an awesome atmosphere. Last time they had a Viper powered S15 and a Supra engined E46. Those were the pro BDC drivers iirc and put on a good show.
I can't see it being finished anytime soon though, its no where near completed.
Can see it attracting big crowds when its done though. Think the closest other purpose built drift track is Teeside Autodrome and the drivers want a change.

yes! i'm glad others agree. I dont know whats happening but everyone is going mad for drifting at the moment.
drifting has been around for years, but so have ray bans and that didn't stop the huge flux of everyone buying them last summer.
its a fashion interest, just like old VWs were really big in 2010/11, that trends dying out now around here too, soon enough people will move on to something else. MX-5s are shite, gay little cars but i love E36s and the idea of picking one up for sub 1k, no fucks given, then thrashing it sideways around a track is hugely appealing.
car scenes change, but it keeps things interesting :y:

Stissy seems to be referring to the snapback kids who think drifting is a 'scene'. Whereas if you actually go and attend a drift day, you'll realise these people make up 1% of the attendees. Everyone there is usually fat and bald, and having a good laugh in an old beater.
Just naive people who choose to ignore what is actually going on, and instead preach an argument on a stereotype that barely exists. Typical saxp lol.

Whoever said it won't work is a doughnut, jumanji (the drift event they run there) is growing and growing. Buy an e36 for lees than 1k weld the diff and off you go! Think there were 25 drivers last event and a reserve list about half as many again. That was on the oval with walls all the way round so loads of people are put off incase they mess up and crash. The first event is in July if I remember correctly.

I laughed at this, alot.
Old VW's are just a fad from 2 or 3 years ago? There are more Mk1/Mk2 being rebuilt now than ever. It is one of the biggest car scenes world wide currently.
As for drifting, more people are doing it because it's getting cheaper. 5 years ago, even the older MX5s (for example) were around the 4 grand mark. Too much for a young lad to be buying and possibly writing off. Now you can pick up MX5s, S14s, E30s and E36s for little over a grand. It's just more affordable.

nah, derbydubs (for example) used to be rammed with mk1s and mk2s back then. They were the 'in' car to have. this year you're lucky if you see more than 2. people grow up and move on. i had lots of friends that owned mk1s but they've all now sold up and gone for something different. same with PVW, if you bought that in earlier years it was all about the classic VWs - now its all about, ballin', in big Audis and new Golfs.
The old mk1/2 VW scene, all this 'stance' stuff, huge camber, is just a fad - its already dying out around here, give it a couple of years and people will be onto something else.
i'm even willing to put money on it.

So people buying new cars is the scene dying? People move on, yes. But they sell the cars to other owners who then get into the scene themselves.
Mk1/Mk2 Golfs are at the point of being owned by people who WANT to own them. They're an enthusiasts car. No longer owned by people who see it as just a car to get them around. There is still a huge number of them on the road and the scene is far from dead.
Considering that I'm just down the road from you, I have no idea how you can say it's dying down around you. I know for a fact it isn't.

Its a fad. You can't hold on forever mate, soon it will be time to move on. for example, look at facebook pages such as stanceworks, alldubs, etc, their 'likes' have shot through the roof over the last few years. When i was 17/18 i'd never even heard of them, now you can't go to a car meet and not hear someone mention 'stanced'. The same will happen again, people will find something new to latch on to, those scenes will die and people blow their money on whatever's cool to do at the time. I'm all for it though, i like change, it keeps things interesting.

Just because YOU didn't know about them, doesn't mean they've suddenly boomed now. You've just started noticing it more, same with drifting, there is no fad, it seems you've only just been exposed to these things, and as a result of your recent exposure, you think everything is a 'fad'.

look at their facebook likes compared to a few years ago. or look at the stanceworks forum activity compared to a few years ago. wheel whores is the same, the whole german scene has definitely grown hugely in the last two years. its fashionable at the moment.

nah not really, the Honda scene is like the BMW scene. constantly busy.
The long and short of it all, is that 5 years ago, chrome wheels, big bodykits, tripple spoilers and neons etc were cool. that fad died - right now, old VWs, stanced/slammed/whatever you want to call it, is the cool thing to do. This fad, will also one day die, and some of the next generation of car scene will look at 'eurolook' and think "how shit was that?"

Yeah i can still remember that thing from the 1st Jumanji event last year. He wasn't all that good to start with and the car was road worthy lol. Now its barely recognisable and he's stuck at it and improved alot. Fair play to him he's kept at it whereas most who have contact with the wall don't return lol.
My favourite was the silver BMW 540i. That thing sounded friggin awesome. Think there's a few E30's with the 4.0 V8 aswell.
