Purchased this box last night:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-2003-MK1-MK2-Citroen-Saxo-VTS-1-6-Petrol-Complete-Manual-Gearbox-VTR-/130901617375?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3 D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D7983011610979792102%26pid%3 D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D130901617375% 26

When I phoned the guy, he said the box was from a vts which he bought to do a conversion on a vtr but for some reason didn't get round to it hence selling the vts engine and gearbox (Don't know the fate of the engine). Says on his ebay page that the engine and gearbox were rebuilt and painted red and black... I'm not sure if it was the guy selling it or the person before him that rebuilt them, he never said. Also he said there is not a gearbox code on the box so I couldnt check to be sure it was a vts.

So heres my questions, if anyone can answer any, that would be greatly appreciated...

I heard there was a limited run of vts gearboxes that were made without codes on them and wondered if it could be one of those?

Does anyone recognise the gearbox and red and black engine from a progress thread one here to maybe give me a bit more info about the box (It's a long shot)?

In the second picture you can see the bit (don't know its name lol) with the teeth on it that goes into the engine... I've seen a few pics of saxo boxes and these differ from box to box and was wondering if there was any way to tell by that?

If this fails, I'll just have to wait and see when I drive it. If it ends up being a 1.1 box or something I guess it's not the end of the world as that improves acceleration anyway :].

Cheers for any help guys!

ive never heard of a limited run of vts gearboxes with no codes? That just sounds pointless lol

and please please try and get your money back on that! You've been robbed blind lol Unless its an xsi/rallye gearbox, you shouldn't really pay more than £100 on one max. That one has obviously just been painted red and had the code grinded off most probably so you can't tell what it really is...

I've got a 1 off saxo gearbox with a hidden 6th gear. Makes any car do 180mph minimum.

£600. Intrested? :y:

I've got a vts box with no code on it, there simply isn't a number stamped into the casing. Some late ones didn't get it, not sure if other late run saxos were the same.

Like said, some later models don't have codes.

I'd say that's a fair price as long as it is a fresh build.

Cheers for the helpful replies guys. He's got a 14 day return policy so I'll be able to tell by what the revs are sitting at and if its anything different it'll be getting sent back.

Perrsonaly I wouldn't buy a £250 gearbox unless it has proof ie invoices for parts and labour, just because it looks pretty doesn't mean that its like new.

Plust I have bought a whole saxo vts for that price haha
