If you wanted to lower a car that parts are very scarce for and coilovers aren't available, what would you do?

And no not sell the car, more how you would achieve what you set out to do

Ring the big names and ask if they want to use your car as a guinea pig to design some gear for

They'll most likely offer you the items cheap once plans are made

Or ring the big names and ask for custom

Are there no other cars with a similar designed/size suspension that you could get machined to fit.

I'm assuming his kalos. Would actually look smart with some lows and some nice wheels.

Yeah this, it saves me a fortune in running costs so would like to lower and change rims but the most for lowering is 40mm that I can find, wheel choice is awesome though

Does spending money on it not defeat the point though?

There are company's around that make custom springs, have to measure the spring height when compressed and send the spring to them

Take old springs off, find someone you know with possession of fork lift truck, use forks to squash the springs, heat up and cool down a couple of times, with torch and hose, leave overnight.. Will bring em down a bit

How high is the car currently?
Could look good with just a 40mm drop if you can get the springs already?

Does this really work? Never heard of this one lol

My mate did it to his 106, with already uprated springs though, to make them even lower..

Wouldn't heating and cooling change the properties of the spring? I may be wrong but just doesn't seem very safe :/

Yeah, potentially making them brittle and prone to shattering

Get the -40mm springs and chop a coil or 2 off??

Ive done it before, and its been fine. Ive been in cars with chopped standard springs and they most certainly aren't fine lol.

Took a corsa b for a spin on choppers and felt sick immediately.

can't you get some custom made, loads of company's do it.

Saw a guy on retrorides do it for his super old rolls, think it was like £200 for a set.

Nik_L

www.coilsprings.co.uk will custom make you a set.

Are shortened shocks available for the car also as you will need them too.

See what other springs fit from other cars.

Its the same for micras.. limited stuff and the coilovers arnt exactly cheap..which is the reason why the majority of them owners run cut springs. You can fit corsa b coilovers on them and even matiz struts.
