Hey guys, thought it was about time I started a progress blog on here for my xsi, been on here long enough, and since moaners got shit, been on here more as well, thoroughly better forum. ;)

I brought the car a few years ago now, almost by mistake, was at the time looking for a Satria Gti, and randomly came across the xsi on ebay, went and saw it the next day and drove home in it, I've always liked 106's, had one as my first car. just never considered buying one again.

She's a 1996 1.6 xsi, import, from where I don't know. genuine out of the factory silver paint (no colour changes recorded, and its silver under the carpet, behind dash etc etc) 1 of only about 3 more I can identify in the world as being genuine silver and not resprays. full leathers, not half, again, these seem original, don't look to be custom, car was completely standard when I got it bar being debadged.

any, my first 106

sold that to buy this, just before they went mental, took from near standard and a 15.5 quarter to 180bhp and a 14.0 quarter,
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/gt.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/gt.jpg.html)
sold that to buy this Volvo

and then finally got this,

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/Photo0030.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/Photo0030.jpg.html)

within a couple of weeks of having it, it had been fully serviced, cambelt all done etc, then was straight onto the thruxton for a track day

Kam racing exhaust
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/Photo0097.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/Photo0097.jpg.html)
also fitted an alpine 117ri headunit, dls front speakers and focal rears, with an alpine swe-1000 sub under the drivers seat. also, for some reason, decided to fit some lenso rs5's, stayed on for all of about a month.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/Photo0192.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/Photo0192.jpg.html)
original wheels went on, and the rear interior got a strip down, repaint, new side carpets and sound deadening

then this happened
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/Photo0169.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/Photo0169.jpg.html)
lady in the very left hand lane, direction arrows for the motorway, decided she was coming across in front of me, in the lane next to her, some how avoided her, but hit the barrier (yes I probally was going abit fast, but hey ho, live and learn)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/Photo0161.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/Photo0161.jpg.html)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/Photo0212.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/Photo0212.jpg.html)
body work damaged wasn't actually that bad, new set of lights, bend the wings back out, suspension took the brunt of it. so it came of the road, and I fitted this little lot
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/Photo0214.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/Photo0214.jpg.html)

refurbed gti struts, B8 dampers, Faulkner 155lb springs, new topmounts, new lower arms, quicky 19mm arb, new arb bush's and drop links, uprated driveshafts, brembo max discs, brand new calipers and omp pads.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/Photo0234.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/Photo0234.jpg.html)
removed the aerial
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/08062012105.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/08062012105.jpg.html)
then not much happen for a year, due to a gearbox problem and a planned jp4 conversion, it got sorn'd, collected a jp4 engine, complete j4 set up to use the parts from and a few other little bits and pieces, got the j4 g'box refurbished. then due to splitting up with the other half and moving back home with the parents, I either had to sell the xsi or the diesel runabout, so the 16v conversion has been forgotten about for the summer, and just put the new gearbox on, kam racing exhaust has been taken off, (custom hidden supersprint back box in the making) and a set of c5's powder coated silver with some satin black morrettes stuck on.

and most recently, custom 306 stealth shelf, waiting to be wired in

Lol, i didnt want to at first, but with standard airbox etc the jp4 is quite an oem looking conversion in an s1, which is sort of what i'm going for, oem modified kinda thing
we'll see, taken a year so fat just slowly gathering bits

as far as i can tell they are what the car left the factory with, certainly seem to be original full leather, and the car was standard with no signs of stuff being removed. will try get a few more pics of them, may be up for sale soon though, i prefer the look of half leathers. also, i have just noticed, i effectively have gti door cards, although they are off s1 design, (no marks where the larger the arm rests where and the random middle part on s2 door cards)

couple of little bits on this this weekend, always been a fan of bright white smd's, but ever since I fitted them to the morrettes, they just didn't quite look right

so after finding some yellow/orange ones left over from another car. thought i'd stick them in this, million times better

also decided to remove the black b pillar strips,

Finally got my exhaust on!! only been a year and half of having the centre section and a few months of having the rest.
also did a few other little bits

take one, perfectly fine saxo supersprint back box,

and take a hack saw to it, just for the test fit, this was the scary bit tbh, haven't actually seen anyone do it, just heard a few people say it sits higher on the 106, so to cut into it and ruining it if it was no where near what I wanted would have been a waste. turns out it was perfect

roll on a month or two, finally get round to getting the car into the workshop.
fitted a new spoox lower mount

and a gmc 4-1 manifold, heatwrapped, along with a kam centre section
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/monka106/WP_000478_zps19ceb877.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/user/monka106/media/WP_000478_zps19ceb877.jpg.html)

and having never picked up or used a mig welder before, this was the end result of using a gasless mig.

and fitted up

one problem though guys, quickshift seems really stiff, any ideas? doesn't seem to like self centering anymore, especially from 4th/3th, doesn't just 'fall' into the middle position

Did you mount it to low so it touches the heatshield below?

monka
20th July 2013, 19:45
no I checked that, plus same before and after the heat shield went on.

not much happened recently, running out of enthusiasm for it at the moment, rear beam issues and thinking about getting something new (keep finding my self looking at suzuki ignis sports at the moment) still, managed to find some stupidly cheap yellow lenses the other day, just need to get the chrome surround painted black i think

its a rover 45 v6 splitter (i think anyway, it was a rover, and it had a v6) hard to get hold of now, abit harder to get to fit than the laguna as well, but abit more subtle.

next april/june you can have them, as thats when i aim to get rid of the car.

nice one mate i will pm you when you start splitting it then or just let me know, such a nice car, got its own style unlike most the xsi's loving the yellow spotlights and morrettes with light removed.
