I have only ever been stopped once in 3 years of driving, however this week I have been stopped 4 times,

1st time round the police said my insurance isn't available to view,
2nd time round the police said it was a road side check
3rd time round the police said it was a loud exhaust
4th time round the police said they had infomation somebody else is using the car,

Nobody else is using the car except me but the 4th does seem the most likely,
The police very all ok to be fair, very polite, then they let me on my way,
How many more times do I have to get pulled before its police harrasement?

No longer have that car, this was in the saxo, why would an unmarked car tag me? They were even sat outside my house as I got in from work at 3 this morning

Someone may have seen you driving "enthusiastically". I can't figure out why you would be stopped 4 times in a week then them being outside your house at 3 AM.

Can you think of any reasons why they would possibly do that, apart from the joys of spending public funding into harassing the public? Loud exhaust, 3 AM. Connecting the dots yet? Nah, must be the coppers on a power trip surely.

Im not asking you to work out why I've been stopped, Was just asking how many times before its harrasment like I said, I have only been pulled once in 3 years, until this week.

It's harassment when they'll run out of reasonable suspicion. Pics of exhaust?

It's not harassment if they have reason to pull you over every time though?

Someone's possibly seen you driving like a dick/suspiciously and has put an intel log onto force computer about your car.

Is it the same policemen everytime or different?

Often if a vehicle gets the police interest such as its pulled and is not road legal, or is driven badly or by a drunk driver or someone known for braking other laws the vehicle with have a marker put on it. If your vehicle has a marker on it the odds of you getting pulled in future are far greater. That or someone does not like you and is dobbing you in to the police telling them uninsured drivers are using your car and such like. This will get your vehicle marked as well.

The next time the police pull you over, and you're having a laugh with the bobby in the back of their car, just politely ask them, explain you've been pulled multiple times this week if you're on their hit list.

Being pulled multiple times with no evidence can constitute harassment. If it continues then i'd make a complaint, however, just make sure that you are whiter than white.

I don't know the full story so their could be a valid reason, then again, police are humans and like every job there are some idiots wearing the uniform.

Cheers for that, its a kam racing exhaust, I understand they have a job to do hence why I was polite and fully co-operative, I will keep you updated on how many more times I get pulled this week, getting beyond a joke

Same thing happened to a friend of mine, he got pulled about 5 times in one week with them only to ask what he was up to.
To be fair his car was rather loud, so obviously if a police officer is having a bad day then they'll be more inclined to pull someone with a louder than standard car.

If its the same police officer then he must fancy you haha.

people in your street are probably sick of your daft exhaust at 3AM and have phoned the police and reported you for something

Well its not illegal in the UK for a loud exhaust providing its not excessivly loud, so its not really a valid reason to be pulled.

Which is probably why they pulled him over on the 3rd occasion, to determine whether his exhaust was excessively loud, thus it was valid.

If he's revving it like a bell end that will make it valid

Almost always a reason.

Watched the first minute of that, usual shit we get most days off at least one person who thinks they know the law.

I don't like people like this if im honest. Amount of crap the police must get, I mean after all, they're out there to protect us.

Deal with police politely and civil they most of the time let you off with stern words. MOST of the time.

100% correct, I'm sure there are certain people who just behave like that to everyone then encounter

Was very polite on all occasions, the police were to be fair, only doing a job like most of us, seems like they want to see whose driving the car as they ask for my licence straight away, ask how long I have had the vehicle, checks insurance then let me go, no stern words whatsoever

I had 2 weeks of it, after the 3rd time I started writing down the names and badge number each time. By the 11th pull the list was rather large and he actually told me to go on my way when he saw me pull it out in the car.

You will find it hard to file for harassment with a modified car and id say you need at least 10 times in a few weeks to be able to kick up a fuss

I got pulled over once. The reason: I bought my new tax disc on a Friday 4.50 pm from the Post Office. Of course it didn't register on the Police computer the next day. They were very polite, had a look at my drivers licence. Upon checking my insurance they saw my NCB and we ended up chatting about the car etc

Exactly true, correct attitude and politeness go a long way when were dealing with motorists.

Where possible it's always beneficial to advise and educate, afterall traffic and road safety elements are still the one area where we get discretion.

With regard to modifications, again if you have insurance, your photocard driving licence with you at the roadside, you're polite and the car looks respectable, then most of the time you'll be allowed on your way very quickly. Alot of modified cars are cared for and better maintained than a majority of cars on the road.

If you have no documents with you, no ID, you have a stinking attitude, and the car looks like a shed then we will be very thorough. And yes we can check there and then for all elements of insurance including whether mods are declared - alot of insurance companies will void there and then if there's any discrepancies.

Stay polite & relaxed and all will be good.

How wonderful, you must have been thrilled.

i daresay after the 4th time in a week it might become a little tiring.

And yes, as Tom says, best to keep monitoring and see how consistent they are. After the 4th time like the OP i'd certainly start becoming a bit suspicious that they have me marked and begin to take steps to do something about it. That doesn't mean reporting yet, but i'd definately take notes.

Being civil and polite always goes a long way but it doesn't stop them tugging you to begin with which is what this thread is about.

Nope, it was like any other level headed chit chat. The uniform doesn't make a difference.

"i daresay after the 4th time in a week it might become a little tiring."

Maybe tiring, though there must be a reason for that which isn't necessarily harassment, but certainly not coincidence. Funny why wouldn't OP have the slightest clue about what could possibly trigger that much attention. I'm wondering how his car looks and sounds, but also how he drives it.

back when you used to get producers for documents, I actually had to go to court for "no licence, no insurance and no mot" (when in fact I had all three). After being pulled and given a producer 6 times in 7 days. I forgot to produce on producer number 3...

Got kicked out of court before I even stepped in the courtroom of course (thanks to the nice clerk of the court) but the reason I had so many was simply that I was driving like a bit of a prick, at times of the day (night) that draw attention... My own fault :)

Haven't been stopped for anything other than a drink/drive roadblock/stopcheck or speeding in probably 15 years now though, so I've clearly got better at hiding my silly driving :p

My mate once had a run in with the coppers in/around Cardiff. He got stopped at least once a day for about 3 weeks. Reason given most times was "oh, personalised plate on a top notch, new (at the time) freelander, with a young bloke driving it, must mean it's nicked!" After logging the badge numbers and times etc for the 3 weeks, he dropped into the local station and proceeded to tell the station chief that if it happened again he would be sueing for harrassment (helped that his dad was a lawyer). Funnily enough, it didn't.

get a stop form every time, more than 3 in a week can be classed as harassment and reported, also ask if theres a marker on the car as thatll make them pick u everytime

No it can't. Depending on the circumstances and person being stopped its not uncommon to stop/search people a number of times per day.

If you get stopped once, and they don't give you a fine or find anything wrong, its harassment, and you should seek legal advise from a solicitor that day if possible

Not sure if serious?

The solicitor would laugh at you. Any vehicle can be stopped to check documents.

If they stop you, and don't end up fining you, or finding anything wrong, they have harassed you, and you can report them! I should know, i studied law.
