Reading the news there, the governments promising a gcse exam "shakeup" to bring the standards into line with the rest of Europe.

Now Im not sure if any of you share the same old man mentality of "exams are getting easier" but i saw a standard grade maths paper the other day and fuck me... some of the questions would put tits on a fish. Examples? Ok then: "write your birthday in the form dd/mm/yy"; "round £23.25 to the nearest pound"; "what is 33.3% of £10?".

Christing fuck man, Im not even making them up, I wish I was tbh.

Anyone a teacher and just find that kids nowadays are complete spazzies?

Well apparently.. There's a massive twist on about this

Teachers have only been given then Info to teach, that would be test related.. So the kids pass and everyone looks good

However.. Now there are billions of ppl With good grades that know jack.. And as there's so many it's impossible for ppl to decide who is best for jobs

What a bunch of retards the government are

Related to that blackie.. When i did my apprenticeship, they used to give us the questions which would be on module tests, and give us the answer sheet as well, let us study it for an hour, then give us the test straight after.. lol

They're on about changing it so there's no coursework at all. Now to me that's stupid, If you're having a bad day it'll fuck up your whole exam?

Also smiths a geek :ninja:

I think they're heading in the right direction, and the exams should be made harder.
I managed to get A's and B's in my GCSEs without actually doing any work, it shouldn't be that easy (I Finished school 6 years ago).

They should be pushing kids and trying to get them to achieve their full potential, At the moment they're not.

Was the same when I was at school mate, but I'm talking about.. Up to degree/masters level, was on the radio not long back, basically they've devalued the meaning of the qualifications

As this year they changed alot of exams/thresholds in some instances due to leaked info getting out and loads of ppl done shit lol, because they hadn't learned their field as a whole, just what they'd been to,d was going to be on the test :fcuk:

I hope they do tbh, my school used a board that was 70% or more in some cases coursework against final grade

And they made you do it at home where most done it at school

I never  far too important being a youth in your youth lol, never revised and still aced nearly all exams because I'm actually quite clever when I can be bothered :homme:

But as it was mostly coursework it pulled my grades down to average and below in some cases as tbh, I turned v little coursework in

I'm currently doing exams, not gcse but the Irish leaving cert, the only exam that is now actually challenging is maths as they introduced a new course last year called projects maths, load of bollix really, the leaving cert is basically a memory test and doesn't test your capabilitys IMO, plus I've a shit memory for school shite anyway! See how good ill do, or bad :P

depends on whether its the higher or foundation though!
not gonna lie on the foundation papers you did litterally get questions such as circle the " even " numbers out of the following numbers etc

but i did actually really have to try hard at gcses and i ended up with 3 A's 5 B's and a C
majority of my mates did fuck all and still got better than me haha

where as A-Levels are fucking hard! no one can say those are easy!
i did maths, physics, biology and chemistry and fuck me they were hard! in first year i came out with B C D E and in 2nd year i came out with all U's !

Ive always thought that just exams aren't a good way to test someones ability in a subject. I remember some of my modules at uni were so highly weighted with just a final exam, that if i was having one bad day, i could bollocks up my degree. Ridiculous to not have coursework.

Hazmanscoop

i agree with whats been posted.

I think coursework is a needed part of the qualifications.

Some people just cant cope with exams and need the coursework to push their grades up.

Also, as im science, it gives them a chance to actually carry out and report on a given subject from start to finish, without me spoon feeding them.

I checked no one was around from SSC old school before i posted it. Foiled. :-(

I used to work in hmv so had to deal with kids a lot. The impression i got was that it was the done thing ("cool" if you were from the 70s like me) to act stupid - by stupid I mean actually of low IQ; kids would just act retarded and confused all the time.

I went for an interview to get into uni recently and the guy interviewing said "well, nearly everyone applying has better grades than you" and i made the point that i sat exams a good while ago when they were a fair bit harder. Spoke to a mate of mine whos a tutor and he said that what they used to teach in higher maths would stand you in good stead for first year of uni, but now the first year of uni maths is tending towards what they used to teach in standard grade/gcse as theyre dumbing down tests/teaching so much that uni has to do the same.
