Found this little bad boy on EBAY earlier and just wanted to know if this will get my sax (2001 vts) though a MOT?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PT8001-CAT-PIPE-CITROEN-SAXO-1-6i-16v-TU5JP4-97-99-VTS-Under-Floor-cat-/310654924856?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ASaxo&hash=item485479f838
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

It depends where you cat should be. iirc on a vtr before 2000 they are underneath like that and after 2000 they are part of the manifold. Not 100% about vts though

Dont buy crap CATs mate learned that lesson too many times now even if its only temperory for the MOT. I have BM cat, not had an MOT since having it fitted by its a good quality cat and found cheap cats will last a year if your lucky and have to be piping hot for it to funtion properly.
Hope this helps

One of those came with my Saxo.
Failed the MOT - the cat hadn't even been used. Might as well have not had a cat on it at all. Had to take it to a friendly MOT inspector to get it through.

Could you not borrow a mates CAT for the mot then swap back over?

Exactly the proiblem i had. The CAT i had was a BM cat which is known to be a good quality one and i paid £50 new for it and got £10 back when i handed in my old one to them.
Also dont put it on a day or two before the MOT as that wont work either, the CAT has to settle itself to your car to get a good emmissions reading and dont use red x before MOT. Many will say this will help emmisions for MOT and again never did for me it actually made matters worse it made their reading far too in acurate.

Visit or contact your local Andrew Page for a price on a BM Catalyist for your vehicle like i said mine was £50 and £10 back when handing my old one in even if its cheap crap one. or this one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BM-Catalysts-CITROEN-SAXO-Catalytic-Converter-Exhaust-91103-1-6-10-2000-2-2001-/390555283282?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ASaxo&hash=item5aeee8af52
The problem you have is i know you only want it for MOT only so dont want to spend alot, but if you get a cheap one you will 100% not get through your MOT meaning your spending more to put it right to pass it through the MOT.
Good Luck

What the fuck are you on about, If the cat doesn't pass the mot then you take it back with your emissions print out and tell them its not fit for purpose. they don't have a option but to take it back.
Cheap cats are fine to get you through the mot that's why most in the trade call them mot cats.

did you actually pre heat the cat tho? you have to get them red hot for it to function properly, basically to make like a chemical reaction inside and make the internals expand and fill the pipe fully and actually work as a cat.
I fitted a new cat took car for test and failed emissions, after 15 mins of revving at 4k, all of a sudden it dropped and past emissons, and has past 2 tests since.

Just like rick said bedford, most cheap cats fail on emissions old or new, it happened to me and load of other people. I was getting emmision reading off the scale, al fitted correctly with no gaps in exhaust system and a good quality o2 sensor. The mechanic actually asked me if it was decat, and when i told him it was stock with a new Cat he was shocked. End of the day you pay peanuts for the cats on ebay are you really going to go to the trouble of sending it back and paying return fees?

I drove the car for 50 minutes at motorway speeds in 4th before the test. It also went through the 180 second fast idle test too, failed on 'lambda'. 0.7 when it was supposed to be. 0.3. Lambda sensor was replaced too.

A catalytic converter is a vehicle emissions control device which converts toxic byproducts of combustion in the exhaust of an internal combustion engine to less toxic substances by way of catalysed chemical reactions.
Warm-up period
Vehicles emit most of their pollution during the first five minutes of engine operation before the catalytic converter has warmed up sufficiently to be effective
The guy here was considering buying a CAT on ebay for £20 im just stating the fact that buying a cheap CAT may not get you through an MOT as most cheap CAT coverters need at least 5 minuites of warming up to become effective.
You were helpful before mate helping me with a Clio glow plug problem to which i praised you for helping. dont spoil it.

So that's a no to you knowing how a catalytic convertor works then. The facts are yes cheap cats work, they will get you through the mot. As I said before don't buy from eBay, if the cat fails the mot and you bought it from a reputable dealer such as Andrew page or euro car parts take the cat back with a print out of the emissions and swap it for another.

Again. Yes i know how a catalytic convertor works as i explained it in the about post. And as i was pointing out to the guy who is looking for a Cat convertor dont buy the one off ebay as it wont work well, i even told him to try Andrew Page and to go for a brand like BM catalytists.

Not a problem for MOT, as the tester has to make sure the car is up to operating temperature before carrying out emissions check.
Usually, let the engine idle until the fan(s) kick in.
Ideally, you want oil temperature up to normal before emissions test as well.
