View Full Version : Important! : Squeaky Rear
No pun intended!
I have a squeaky rear. When car is stationary and press down on rear (boot open, pushing down on boot lip) there is a squeak.
To top it of it gets worse when driving on a bumpy road. Bloody irritating.
could this be the ARB? if so where is it situated?
Sorry for the lame questions, its the first time owning a saxo.
I must say that its a MK1 Vtr 1998
Cheers in Advance:fcuk::fcuk:

It could be the ARB,or the rear shocks making the noise. There is a guide on here for fixing a noisy arb.

Not the ARB, that would make a clanging/banging sound.
I had the "Squeak" when pushing down on the back, had to get a new beam.

The "squeak" is probably the tyre rubbing the inner arch, in which case your axle is fubar. no chance of even fitting new bearings to it.
if it's more of a creak it's likely the bearings are drying up and need replaced. you may get away with new bearings depending on the stub axle condition.
Disconnect your shocks at the bottom and press down again. if the squeak is gone then it's the shocks.
Make sure the handbrake is off as well plz :P
There is no chance it would be the ARB at the back. it's a torsion bar and it's mounted metal to metal and it's a tight fit. it's secured by 2 nuts, if they were snapped you get a clicking noise. :y:

my rear anti roll bar made a squeak]
its just the end plate on the passenger side with is loose. Hit or wind it back on tighter and tighten the bolt with a strong one (the standard bolt snaps easily)

That's a creak, not a squeak.

I don't think so :n: Just hammer the splines of the end plates onto the bar and the 2 retaining nuts.

I don't think that's your ARB :P
Seriously.
the ONLY way it could squeak like a mouse is if the dust seal has dried up. in which case, your bearings are probably drying up as well. get the end plates off and have a look.

The only way I can think of, is to get 2 end plates with the holes, and use M8 bolts to pull them onto the bars using the threaded holes in the bars.

You can only tighten the end plates. there is no adjustment.

same, I had an irritating squeak and it disappeared when I changed my rear beam :y:
Cars are a strange concept, I thought the squeak was coming from the rear. But after wondering why the car look like it dropped at the front.
Under inspection, the stabilizer rods, had perished changed them all good no squeaks!!.
While I was underneath the car I noticed an oil leak on the gearbox housing (left handside of car) looks like a sump plate for the gearbox?? cant find picture and my phone dont take pictures :( it looks like it needs a new gasket. However I cant seam to find what the name of the part is. Looks like a trip to citroen to get exploded view.
Any ideas what it may be?
Cheers guys

Well, there is no sump gasket in a 106, it's sealant. :y:
It's common, if the sump has been off before, for people to not bother re-fitting the nuts which secure the sump behind that plate.
Either that, or your crank seal or gearbox seal has gone.
If your oil level isn't dropping much, I'd leave it be. Don't go digging.
