Hey guys, im a first year apprentice mechanic and i dont really have much experience with wheel as i work on buses at work and we have an allocated specialist for wheels.

Anyway, today i was changing my wheel to a spare ( it had a puncture ) and i discovered this oily substance on the inside of my rim, this is not a good sign in my mind, cv boot looks a little greasy, but only as if the last guy who worked on it didnt wipe it that much after, however this grease on the cv boot doesnt look like the stuff on the rim exactly. The brake piston also has a little bit of oil on and so i was thinking it could be brake fluid? But my brakes have been fine, level stayed constant and there isnt a huge amount.

Any ideas of what else it could be?

id clean everything up and then look for any damaged parts if no sign then run it around as normal keeping an eye on it :) could just be a build up of dirt and old leaks etc

Even a pin hole on the CV boot can do this.

it's like thick oil, CV boot grease isn't like LM grease for example. when mixed with brake dust it appears like an oil leak.

Brake fluid dries the skin, you'd know if it was brake fluid. Hold your foot on the brake pedal for about 30 seconds with the engine off, if the pedal sinks then you've got a leak.

get a pic up. :y:

Cv grease is manky, heat makes it runny and centrifugal force throws it out the smallest hole so new boot required or you might be lucky and can reseat it if its not torn. Remember to pack it with grease mind
