Been getting static interference on radio stations so took stereo out (fitted by previous owner).

Stereo is JVC and car is 2002 VTR.

Found that the blue and white wire on the back has snapped. I reckon the wire has always been snapped as i've never taken stereo out before.

Anyone know what this is for or if I need it? LOL

Looking at a few wiring diagrams for jvc units.
The blue/white wire is for a steering wheel remote.
So not needed if you haven't got a remote.
I'm guessing it would only cause problems if the bare wire was touching the case of the head unit

Cheers for that. I didn't even think to look for a wiring diagram!

So I looked for the diagram online of my stereo and for the blue and white wire it says
"To the remote lead of other equipment or power aerial if any (200 mA max.)"

Like you say this sounds like an 'extra' which I don't have. I'll tape up both ends so they arn't touching any other bits.
