Anyone know of a cage that will fit with the rear seats still in place without hacking the seats to bits

Any proper cage with proper bracing wont allow for rear passengers.

you could fit one of the older safety devices or Sparco cages that bolt to the wheel arches so wouldn't interfere with the seats them selves but the cross bracing would make it impossible to use the seats and even if you could you would have bars around your head with i assume standard seat belts unless you run harnesses in the rear.

assuming you are running buckets and harnesses.. it would make it pretty difficult to get into the back and again if sat in the back you would have harnesses in the way!

i wouldn't contemplate running normal seat belts and standard seats

Its going to be for night events so won't be having passengers and already have buckets and harness set up so can't use back seats

how come you want to keep the back seats if you wont be using them? is it part of some regs?!

Road rallying I would say? There's a lad on 106oc that still has his back seats in for the regs but there like folded down I believe (or at least they where talking about doing it)

Have heard this before and seen a few with the seats just chucked in the back but would quite like everything kept tidy in the back

Custom cages might do you a cage that goes onto the inner rear wheel arches instead of the boot floor...

From memory the rollcentre cage I have for mine is setup to mount to arches but the bars are all oversized to cut to length so we planned to mount to beam instead.

Good cage and cheap too! But pretty labour intensive to fit as it a full multipoint weld in with dash bar, door bars, front triangulation etc etc etc

Fair point, I don't question regs normally, this just seems a strange one.

Buckets, harnesses, massive rollcage etc etc and a back seat to disguise it all lol

IMO I would probably butcher the seat around the cage and have the cage mounted to the beam, best place for it. Arch mounting does nothing to improve the rigidity of the chassis and isn't as effective in a crash as the wheel arches are made of cheese.

Or just fit them folded down of that's acceptable.

the cages mounted on the rear wheel archs work fine providinh you fit large load spreading plates under them =weld them in before fitting cage .
there have been cages with a bar that goes between rar legs just below rear seat across the tunnel ,
with this type you could fit rear seats .
I have even seen a cage that the rear fixings attached to wheel archs and then extened down to the rear panel --.

I remember seeing pictures of an AX rally car that had been in a huge crash; the shell was absolutely wrecked but looking at the pictures you could tell where the Safety Devices roll cage was, as everything was deformed around it and the cage had stood up really well. SD AX cages mount to the arches using spreader plates as John says.

Im hoping theyre ok as thats what my AX track car has!

Dave, the OMP cage I have attaches to the rear wheel arches. You could run one of them with the rear bench in place. Also, ideally you will want the seats in the upright position so they don't flap about and distract you while running the stages!

I might be tempted to part with mine for a good number or a different make of cage in a swap. :y:

I've always been led to believe and pretty certain that you can fit any roll cage as obviously safety is imperative over having the back seats present. Everyone I know with road rally cars have just butchered up their rear seats to make them fit around the roll cage. Scruts have always been fine with it?
