Ive never used a machine polisher before in my life, i want to use a machine polisher to make my life easyier getting swirls out of my paint work on my saxo and my van.
So obviously i have no experience and no clue about whats good and whats not, i saw this on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PREMIUM-CAR-ORBITAL-PAINT-POLISHER-BUFFER-POLISHING-MACHINE-VALETING-240V-120W-/170853114522?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleani ng&hash=item27c7a3a29a
Is this going to be useless considering the price? can you reccomend me one? thanks.

Wouldnt even bother with that mate! Get your self on to clean your car and get a das6 da . Buy a package deal with compounds and pads for like £120ish . With that lot you cant go wrong.

That's not a machine polisher. It's a buffer. Infant it's less effective than using your arms.

if you want a cheapish one get a silverline storm for £40 pick up some various pads polishes etc and have a practice on some spare metal or a shit car, everyone will cry about it being a rotary but realistically to damage the paint you need to be a complete fucktard.

:y: a rotary isn't dangerous to use, it's just forum scare mongering.

amen :y: the silverlines also handy for any grinding or sanding tasks too which is a bit of a bonus

Realistically speaking, would you just about need to stop moving the rotary to burn the paint?

Well worth the money to get decent polishes as well, I use megs compound, auto glum super resin polish then 3m machine glaze, the finish off with Harley wax. Makes the 5 or so hours well worth it.
It's worth getting decent pads as well mate.
Is a huge difference compared to doing it by hand!!!

Rotary burnt off the paint on the corner of my boot lid, it had been resprayed before and the paint job was probably shite, but it is possible!

Unless the rotary was left on the same spot for ages or the paint was really thin then it really should not have burnt through.
You should always take paint depth readings before doing machine polishing, especially on cars which are known for thin paint as a few are :)
