My brother is coming upto being able to learn to drive. He wants a car (obviously!) and we were/are thinking pug 106 howvever we've just done a quote on a saxo vsx 1.4 and it was only £1300 and that was just the 1st quote from confused.
Really he'd prefer a Westcoast because of the VT kit and extra spec (not the interior like which is rank!) so we're just wondering what the difference in insurance groups there is and if anybody has any experience having one as a 1st car.

Thank you.

Yeah i got a westy, insurance group five. On my own the lowest i got TPFT was 1200, and Fully comp around 1600, but it went upto 2k when i told them about alloys, the lowering kit i was going to buy and have now, and sub in the boot, and induction kit. So i wen on my mums on fully comp and its about 600 now.
I had a load of issues with my drivetrain as soon as i got it but thats just bad luck, bearings went, had four new driveshafts in a month, new CV boots. They are quality first cars, and its not bad for a 1.4 its reasonably nippy. I would reccomend one if you are into cars, and because its a saxo and the whole thing can be taken apart with a screwdriver you can do lots of DIY which is a laugh.

A furio was my first car. I loved it. was Insurance group 5 and was nippy for the car it was.
The car is now dead from the guy who bought it off me..
Heres what mine looked like..

Having a quick look only problem seems to be the intial purchase price of the Westcoast. Looks like a 1.4 series 1 106 is gunna be more like it.

also dont forgot to add 1 of your parents as a named driver as this will bring down his insurance as well plus the bonus is that he will be gaing his own ncb cause its in his name thats what i do lol

Perfect 1st car, I have no complaints about it. And it will only cost about 100£ to replace the interior and belts, just fit it your self and the only difference in the car to a VTR would be the engine. :P

One new point to make, if you crash it costs shit loads to reapir. I never actually thought of this but it makes sense. When you get your car repaired by the insurers they insist on using new parts. And the westy comes with a VT bodykit. Now you may be able to pick parts up second hand mint condition for shit all, because they insist on new pa4rts, the front bumper is 300, the back is 200, each arch is 40 and the side skirts are 60 each. So it bumps up the costs loads making it a write off.
Just a little thing to consider.

hey i've got a westie too. mine got all different coloured seat belts and it cost me £1650 TPFT with Quinn-Direct and that was the cheapest. (of course), but then i'm a 17 male with '0' no claims bonus. but other than the insurance, i love it, really nippy. :P :P  :D:

westcoast are a realy nice car like every one else has said. i looked at non vt looking saxo and got close to purchasing one but only because it had a bodykit and arches i personalyy couldnt have a standerd non arched but saying that there are some very nive examples.
gasket heads seems to be a common problem with saxo with around 60k miles.
but there nice cars and will probs get a vtr in a couple of years time but saying that you can get some bigger faster cars for the same cost of insurance

Its really up to you mate, personally i wouldnt spend money on a car i didnt want to keep for long. The vtr is quick but will rape you on insurance, the westy/furio is the middle of the two

you would have to pay over £2000 to insure a vtr at 18. It just isnt worth it for what you get.
