Non Functioning Temp Gauge

in the gti the temp gauge doesn't move at all, blowers have hot air and cold within the usual times ok no problem, the oil temp on the right moves as it should.

Have checked the 2 pin blue sensor to see if the pins where bent but it looks ok, wiring looks fine to, this is on a 2000 w reg crossover. Could it be down to the dials themselves? everything else on there is fine and works

I`d change the actual sensor it may look ok but internally could`ve broken down.(Mine did this)Plus they`re only £15-£17.

Change the blue sensor. just above the green one.

think the blue is for the dials

easy test for you, earth each of the pins in the plug to the engine block, one will bring on the warning light and one will ping the gauge to the top.

if you get the mentioned behaviour then the problem is likely to be the blue sender/switch, if nothing happens then you have a wiring or instrument cluster problem.

Ok Meirion, just a case of getting some spade connectors on the sensor and some wire then putting the bare end on any part of the block yeah?

Steve I think I got a working spare I can use if the above confirms its sensor being dead, Mintysaxo I know that

Its the pins in the sensor plug you ground out gav.. Not the sensor its self

Turn on ignition..

Take plug of blue sensor...

Look in end of it...

See 2x female pins..

Insert a piece of wire into either..

Hold other end of wire to an earth..

Look at dash..

One pin in plug will put on light.. Other will make gauge go up to maximum..

Simples??

If doing the above doesn't put on light/ make gauge move then you have a loom or gauge problem

looking like a problem or loose connection with the dials at the moment tested the original sensor as per above and nothing happened had spare sensor tried that also nothing, I'll take dials out tomorrow and check the connectors on the back of them

You may have a dry solder joint in the cluster mate.:drink:
