Removed the fuel filler pipe off my 106 XSi today and this little green thing took me by surprise and plopped out of the bottom. I managed to rescue it from swimming within the main tank pipe but I have no idea how it fits

I've removed plenty of fuel tanks and filler necks in my time but have never come across this bit before.

Any ideas?

At a guess those little green lugs at the bottom clip over the rim inside.

There's nothing inside for it to clip onto atall. Very odd. I've looked on both the citroen and peugeot service box aswel and there's no mention of it for any models.

Looks like an anti syphone device of some sort? or maybe to stop fuel sloshing up the neck when you give it some sport?

chuck it :P I say!

Weird one its it. The bit pictured is the main plastic filler neck. The bit which that slots into is the rubber L bend which joins the tank itself so the filler neck so there isn't anything in the L bend. I'm sure the green bit was inside that plastic behind the white flap

Well here's some more pics

What peugeot service box lists, absolutely no mention of the green bit or the flap bit

Too small and nowhere for it to fit in here

And too wide for the diameter here but I'm sure it fell out from inside the white plastic flap

You sure it was actually attached? Not that it's been dropped down the filler neck accidentally in the past?

This. looks like one from a unleaded VAG to me.

I did wonder but its too big to pass through the hole

I've checked service box to see if it fits anywhere else in the tank too but no mention of it. On service box that white plastic flap isn't there either on any models yet it feels pretty solidly fitted to me

Seems to be no clue on this on here or 106OC, so is the general concensus to ditch the green piece being as it doesn't appear to have any logical use?

it does look very out of place in an old peugeot/citroen

although you say its too big, but from the top angle, the circular bit of the green thing looks like it would fit down there

is it not the valve/flap that you poke through with the nozzle of the petrol pump?

It's definitely too wide to have accidentally dropped through the pump nozzle hole. There's just nowhere for it to clip onto either, the middle bit between the springy leg bits definitely looks like it should clip into something.

Cheers Mick.
It seems the green bit does sit In the top piece as per your photo but there is no way of refitting it on an S1 filler neck at least without splitting the top part of the neck and re gluing it (a bit pikey)

So I just bought a brand new one instead. Problem solved :-)
