View Full Version : Shaking body

Hi guys,
My Saxo Desire has started a new performance. At speeds between 30 and 50 mph, when passing over distressed roads (like worn asphalt pieces), left side of the whole car starts shaking noticeably for a while. And then stops shaking. It was not already like this. My feeling is that the shaking triggers from left rear wheel or, I would say, part of the car.
Any idea what could be the cause? And what I should do?
Thanks...

May be a trailing arm bearing, rear damper or wheel bearing. I'd suggest jacking it up and seeing if anything has any play

Push down on the affected corner and see if it bounces for a while. Could be a worn rear shock

I've driven a car with severely goosed rear trailing arm bearings and they tend to want to steer the car where you dont want to go when going round corners. If you trail the throttle as you corner then the front should pull the rear of the car in the direction of the front.
Its pretty straightforward to remove the rear dampers and then test to see if they are dead.

Today, I have an appointment with a mechanic to check up my Saxo.
But it has been two days that I am hearing an increasing sound from underneath my feet with a little bit taste of abnormal vibration. It only appears after 40 mph; below this speed nothing really. I feel a rolling thing is not in its place because I feel the vibration when I put my feet on the floor. Sure the problem is not from engine. When I put the gear on neuter, again I have the sound coming but as soon as I slow down below 40 mph, the noise is gone. Would be worth mentioning that when I turn right a harsh sound from left side of the car clicks awfully, like: tek tek tek, until I steer the car straight ahead.
How shall I describe it to the mechanic?
Thank you for your help.

And the rear wheels with some problem also, or the rear beam bushes

combination of things. I smell unbalanced tyres mixed with worn out suspension. Also as above, check the bearings for play.
when I turn right - car clicks awfully, like: tek tek tek
might be a broken front spring.
A tell tale sign is if you drive during a windy day: when the suspension is shot your car will feel like it's being pushed sideways and going where you don't steer it.

The mechanic said it is mainly due to the left back worn shock absorber. I changed the front wheel bearings. New sets now. But CV joints and wishbones have to be managed soon.
But the tyres are perfectly balanced for sure.
At windy time, it does not go wrong with steering but when I leave the steering wheel, my little saxo has the temptation of steering herself to her left side. Naughty.

a cv joint :)
find an empty carpark and put it on both locks and see if it makes the noise.
also, might be worth checking the rear arches on the inners to see if the wheel has been rubbing.

Check the quality of tyres as well. I've had a vibration in my saxo before which was only noticeable after around 30mph and especially in the wet. My tyres had perished, and the tread had collapsed...
