Hi Lads,

Just driving my Mk2 home and halfway into the journey an almighty squeaking noise happened its so loud I thought it wasn't me at the beginning..

The last few mornings starting her up it's as though a bird has been tweeting for a couple of minutes then as the car warms up it's fine, but today it just suddenly has gotten worse and the noise is so loud and constant when in gear, pulling away ect, I put it into neutral and coasted and the noise wasn't so loud but still there.

What have I broken or need to repair? Is it the fan belt?

Does anyone know how much these are or a pain in the arse to fit?

Could it have just come loose or mis-aligned? If I take it to a garage am I likely to get bent over?

Cheers in advance :y:

So it seems they are called aux belts after a search..

The belt could be on its way out, they do squeak this is probably due to the mornings being wet etc etc. To test it put a bit fairy liquid on the underside of the belt. Start her up, if it's gone then you need a new one.

Most garages will swap it out for £10. Should take ten minutes for them to do, buy a belt and go to a garage. Chances are they'll do it there and then.
