I guys rite ive changed to a brand new thermostat and housing fitted the new hose with the 3rd bleed point ( valve cap ) the car has a new radiator fitted from previous owner, ive bled the system with 50/50 pink coolant, and ive followed the bleeding procedure from the site, is it the rad bleed point throuh to the valve cap one ? Also when the engine was running with the header tank on the water was bubbling and when the fan was on ect, how long do I leave it ? Running ect ect theres still cold air coming out from the fans although they were warm ish at one point.

I'd say bleed it again, there must be an air lock near the heater matrix

What ive noticed is when I put the fan on inside the car it makes a louder sound than my previous saxo, more like a vibrating sound, the car doesnt take long to get hot neither, then the fan kicks in but dont seem to cool it unless the engine is off, my question is how long do I leave the car on during the bleeding process, because when I dont it earlier there were losds of bubbles coming into the header tank during the engine running and when the fan was on, and im I rite in bleeding the rad then by the thermostat then the valve last?

And also what if I take the rear pipe ( valve one ) off and put a hose pipe with a pressure gun on the end to try and flush the heater matrix out?

Should there be a seal I the radiator cap I thinks its the screw on type, and also what about the engine temp sensor on mine I have a blue one on top facing down, and on the side past the thermostat is another blue one with one wire going to it? I can get hold of another sensor but its of a 1.4 is there any difference between a 1.4 and the 1.6 8v ?

When you turn the key to ignition can you hear running water?
If so, bleed the system again - you have an air lock.

Does the engine have to be running when bleeding the back bleed point the tyre valve looking one? Is it best on or off at that point?

You have to bleed the car with the car running. for all bleed points.

You have to keep bleeding it until each bleed nipple, has water running devoid of any bubbles.

Im at my wits end now guys, ive bled this system to the best of my ability. There was coolant coming out of all 3 points, 1st was the rad, then by the thermostat, then the rear valve one. The car don't cool down, when the fan kicks in during bleeding the water goes rite down cause the thermostat opens so we top the header tank up. We let the fan kick in 3 times when bleeding and the engine running, when I got in the car the fans started blowing hot then went cold, we let the car cool went for a 5 min drive. All the car is misted all the time with the rain, no hot air, the temp is always just above half way and just under three quarter and about 5 mins in the drive its red, i dnt really trust my local garages as I know it be a 400 bill for a head gasket when I feel it cud be something else, please could some one with previous experience shine some light on this as im struggling, ive been 4 days doing this and need the car for work, could the heater mstrix be blocked? Temp sensor? Or other things?

Just went out to check the temp, put ignition on the gauge reads just over quarter then the fan kicked in again :/

Im going to have another go at bleeding after dinner, rite when I drain the system first what if nothing comes out of the rad hoses ect. I know theres at least 5.8 litres in there as I bought 5 litres of coolant yesterday and a litre of water in there too.

Is the car actually boiling over when the red light is on or are the lights/gauges mis reporting?

Just finished and the same again, ive used all my coolant that I bought. If I was to keep doing this it would cost a fortune, when I emptied the cooling system hardly anything came out, every coolant pipe on the car was flushed using a hose pipe with pressure. Ive used the header tank method everytime. And bleeded the procedure on here, omce I done that with the fan on and the engine running I checked the 1st bleed point on th rad and it pissed out with air, I didnt do the 2nd one at that point as I already done them all. Then I checked the valve one to the rear and air come out of that 2, I waited for a smooth water flow to come out and tightened both up. When the car is ticki g over then with the fan on the gauge reeds in between half and 3/4 and it doesnt cool down, and theres still only cold air coming out of the fans, me and my brother have tried this 4-5 times and ive gone through 2 litres off coolant with water, and from yesterday weve gone through 5 litres and water also :( pissed off aint the word

Theres 2 blue ones on mine, on fasing down on the thermostat casing, and one on the side on the head both are blue tho

Ahh you have a 3 plug VTR. I'm not sure which blue sensor it is, unplug one and if the gauge doesn't read then you've found the one you need to replace :P
Have you tried bleeding with the engine off? That's how I bled my 106's and I've NEVER had a car overheat - I drove about with no fan on my 1.5D for 3 months as well lol

System only holds 6 or so.
Where is the water going if there's no leaks?
Or have you let that much out the bleeding points? :P
Something clearly isn't right here at all, the fan shouldn't be coming on until the gauge is between 1/2 and 3/4. if it comes on before, the sensor is buggered. has to be?
