Break the car that's failed the mot and the money you will get from that should cover the cost of the vts. Have a look for how much vts go for and work out of much you need to sell each part for and cover the cost? Won't have to put much to it if any stall mate

why would you even take the car to the mot station with a fucked windscreen?

I wanted the list of faults as if I had replaced it I wouldn't have the option to break and buy a new one or fix it

Get yourself proper insurance with glass cover.

Err no you did not clearly mention having glass cover. Normally you fix known faults before the MOT, not after. If you're unsure of putting money into repairs, scrap the car. If that was my car and therefore my decision, I'd fix the car before going through the MOT as I always do.

300 to get the car through is not necessarily that much, especially considering the faults on yours. Think of it before rushing towards another vehicle that could easily end up costing you more than that.

Well its up to you really. Depends on how much you like the car and how much the cars worth

Weigh up the costs of everything to be honest, even how much the insurance will charge you in fees just because you get a new car. Going from VTR to VTS and you will feel the pinch in your wallet, that's increased insurance, increased tax, increased petrol and parts that will also need replacing.

If your problem is VTR current costs vs VTS live the dream: fix the VTR and drive that.

that's my fault I cant think clearly whilst having my teeth kicked and nuts pulled at the same time, you do make a good point though and the reason I didn't fix the windscreen first is because I didn't want to waste a claim if it wasn't going to be worth it as I had that horrible feeling something was wrong that's why I booked it in 3 weeks early

what do you mean "calipers are all fooked"?

also unless you can find a cheap good used beam a refurbed one will set you back 350 plus.

Just think of what the cars worth to you? If your not happy with it scrap it and get another one if it's a car you enjoy driving repair it because £300 ain't much tbh you could get another car and have more problems just because it's got mot doesn't mean it's better. And try and fix all known problems before the mot as you only have a few days to fix it before being charged for another mot.

I reckon that if your issue is the cost, just fix the car because living the "vts dream" is likely to cost you a whole bunch.

Every time I cracked a windscreen, I claimed straight away. I never pushed it back just because of "maybes", that doesn't solve the problem. Cracking 2 a year is more like the shit out of luck department, never seen a case of it nor have my friends.

Old windscreens will inevitably crack and I did ask why to the last autoglass dude that came to repair mine. Apparently as the windscreen joint but also the glass get older (and sustain more and more damage such as small stone chips) and more rigid. As in less flexibility under stress which makes it increasingly prone to crack over time.

In all my years of motoring: look hard enough and you'll always find something to fix. nothing to do with feelings. The only major you're having at the moment is the rear axle, the rest isn't much to be honest.

Im the same as the OP. I don't bother fixing stuff for to put it in and it fail on other stuff that i might have over-looked. Would rather do it all in a 1er. Im not an MOT tester so don't know how much give and take you have on parts. To me something might be ok, but to an MOT tester it might not.

As for breaking it, is there alot of desirable parts on it that you could sell on to make good money back??

I broke my first vtr when it failed on about 13 points, and bought a car with 10 months mot. Ended up costing me shit loads as the newer car was even more fucked overall.
Fix the vtr mate, not worth going to the vts dream - as it's already been said - More fuel, higher tax, higher insurance. Use yer noggin.
